Job summary

Lever, Inc. in the Netherlands is seeking a Junior Legal Counsel focused on AI and GDPR to join our global privacy and governance program. You will translate complex regulations into practical guidance, handling GDPR operations, vendor reviews, data subject requests, and AI regulation readiness across a distributed international organization.

Qualifications

Law degree or equivalent legal qualification.
1–2 years of hands-on data protection experience.
Strong knowledge of the GDPR and its application in an international context.
Genuine interest in AI regulation and emerging technology law.
Strong legal research and analytical skills; ability to translate guidance into advice.
Structured, pragmatic, self-organized work style and ownership of topics.
Comfortable in a fast-paced, remote-first, distributed environment.
Business-fluent English; German or other languages are advantageous.
Privacy certification such as CIPP/E is a plus.

Responsibilities

Manage day-to-day GDPR operations, including drafting and negotiating Data Processing Agreements and Standard Contractual Clauses with international vendors and clients.
Conduct privacy reviews of vendors and help maintain records of processing activities and privacy notices across jurisdictions.
Support development and implementation of AI governance practices, including readiness for evolving EU AI Act requirements.
Handle data subject requests in accordance with applicable data protection requirements.
Explain relevant legal and privacy frameworks in clear, practical terms to operational teams and clients.
Monitor developments in GDPR, EU AI Act, EDPB guidance, case law, and national privacy requirements.
Translate new regulatory developments into actionable guidance for internal stakeholders.
Collaborate with legal colleagues and specialized teams to align privacy and AI governance with business objectives.
