FRISS is seeking a Junior AI Engineer in Utrecht to join our AI/machine learning team. You will help build, test, and run ML and generative AI features, mentored by senior engineers, and contribute to production-ready code on Azure with Claude Code.

As part of the team, you'll work on fraud detection models, prompt design, data preparation, and monitoring of AI services, while aligning with GDPR and security practices in an international, English-speaking environment.

Formación

• Master's degree in a relevant field (CS/AI/Data Science).
• 0–2 years of ML/LLM experience; internships and projects count.
• Strong Python, Git, tests, and REST APIs knowledge.
• Solid ML fundamentals and understanding of LLMs (prompting, embeddings).
• Hands-on with at least one ML framework or API (OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, PyTorch, etc.).
• Good English communication.

Responsabilidades

• Build evaluation datasets and automated tests for LLM outputs.

About FRISS

FRISS builds fraud detection, claims automation, and underwriting risk software for P&C insurers. Our software helps carriers settle honest claims faster and send the suspicious ones to the investigators who need to see them.

About the role

Fraud hides in the details: a claim description that doesn't add up, or a pattern no single file shows. Our ML team builds the AI that finds those signals and helps investigators act on them: models that detect fraud in claims and unstructured text, AI agents that support fraud investigators, and explanations that show why a claim was flagged.

As a Junior AI Engineer, you help build, test, and run these machine learning and generative AI features. Senior engineers in the team mentor you as you take AI features from prototype to production on Azure, and you grow into a fully independent engineer. The team builds with Claude Code as part of its daily engineering work.

What you will do

• Build and improve fraud detection features using ML models, LLMs, and AI Agents (prompting, RAG, tool use) with senior engineers
• Write clean, tested Python code and contribute to shared agent and LLM components
• Build evaluation datasets and automated tests for the quality and groundedness of LLM outputs
• Support the deployment of AI services in Azure (Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, containerized APIs) through CI/CD pipelines
• Help monitor AI services in production (logs, traces, latency, cost) and fix issues
• Prepare and analyze data, including unstructured text such as claim descriptions, in line with privacy (GDPR) and security practices
• Document your work and share findings with the team and product stakeholders

What you bring

• An MSc in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field
• 0 to 2 years of experience with ML or LLM applications; internships, thesis, and personal projects count
• Good knowledge of Python, Git, writing tests, and REST APIs (for example FastAPI); SQL is a plus
• A solid understanding of ML fundamentals and of how LLMs work (prompting, embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation)
• Hands-on experience with at least one of: OpenAI or Azure OpenAI APIs, LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, Hugging Face Transformers, PyTorch, or scikit-learn
• Curiosity, eagerness to learn, and openness to feedback; you take ownership and work well in a team
• Excellent communication skills in English

Nice to have

• Basic experience with Docker and CI/CD (for example Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions)
• Experience evaluating LLM outputs or using observability tooling for AI applications
• Experience with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code
• Interest in insurance, fraud detection, or financial crime
