Job summary

TNO is seeking a Java Software Engineer to develop robust, scalable software for research and defence projects in the EMO division. You will work with engineers, researchers, and analysts on applications used across Defence programmes.

Depending on experience, you may design back-end services, build data-intensive apps for analysis and simulation, and develop APIs for complex systems while collaborating across disciplines. The role offers flexibility such as remote work and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• A university-level MSc in a technical or scientific discipline.
• Strong Java experience; Python is a plus.
• Fluent Dutch and English in written and spoken form.
• Experience in a high-tech, research, or Defence environment is advantageous, but not required.
• Ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams across researchers, engineers, and analysts.

Responsibilities

• Designing and developing Java back-end applications and services.
• Building data-intensive applications for analysis, simulation, and decision support.
• Developing APIs and software components for complex systems.
• Integrating data sources, sensors, and simulation models.
• Testing, validating, and optimizing software for research and operational environments.
• Developing prototypes to enable rapid exploration of new technologies.
