Keeping an IT infrastructure reliable, secure, and future-proof. So that over 13.000 students and 2.500 employees can rely on a stable digital work environment every day. As an IT Infrastructure Specialist at Zuyd University of Applied Sciences, you manage this environment and actively contribute ideas for improvements. Management and development go hand in hand in this role. You divide your time roughly equally between management activities and projects that prepare the infrastructure for the future.
Managing, maintaining, and optimizing the IT infrastructure. Think of Windows Servers, VMware vSphere, storage and NAS systems, Active Directory, Microsoft Enterprise ID, and Azure. You monitor the environment, perform lifecycle management, updates, and capacity planning, and automate management processes, with PowerShell forming an important part of your daily work. As a second-line specialist, you also support the service desk with complex infrastructure issues and incidents.
In addition, you participate in improvement and migration projects, including the phased transition of the private VMware environment to the Azure Public Cloud. You research, prepare, and implement technical improvements, always focused on a stable, secure, and future-proof environment.
Within the infrastructure team, you work with three colleagues. One colleague fulfills the coordinating role, ensuring there is always someone to brainstorm with. The team is part of the Information Provision & Technology department, where approximately 22 IT professionals work, distributed across specialisms such as infrastructure, integration, endpoint management, and identity & access management. You report to Ronald Bruyenberg, manager of the IT service department.
An enterprise IT environment with societal impact – that is what makes this role special. In terms of size and complexity, the infrastructure is comparable to that of large organizations, but you work within a manageable educational institution where you see the direct impact of your work. You combine daily management with challenging migration projects – including the transition from private to public cloud – and are given the space to take initiative. Furthermore, you do not work on revenue targets, but on a reliable IT environment that supports education. This comes with an informal work environment with short lines of communication and the trust to organize your work independently.
