Our client is a dynamic bulk terminal in the Port of Rotterdam, where both people and machinery are in constant motion to ensure smooth and safe loading, unloading and transshipment of bulk goods on a daily basis. To continuously safeguard this, we are looking for an Interim HSSEQ Manager.
As Interim HSSE Manager, you advise the Management Team on health, safety, (port) security, and environmental matters, supporting business objectives while ensuring strong local HSSE performance. You work closely with the Group HSSE function to implement policies, standards, and initiatives. The role is safety‑critical and has a direct impact on the terminal’s overall HSSE performance.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Lead and develop the HSSE team (3 fte) in line with Group HSSE strategy and priorities.
- Participate in the Management Team and provide expert HSSE advice.
- Lead the terminal’s HSSE program, focusing on accident prevention and risk reduction for employees, contractors, visitors, and the environment.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, permits, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and internal standards and procedures.
- Drive HSSE training, awareness, and implementation of Group Safety Principles.
- Conduct inspections and promote safe behaviours and a proactive safety culture.
- Monitor and report HSSE performance to Terminal Management and Group HSSE.
- Support Management of Change, incident and accident investigations, and corrective actions.
- Maintain and improve emergency and contingency plans.
- Represent the company on HSSE and environmental matters with external stakeholders and authorities.
- Collaborate with the Group HSSE Director and other HSSE Managers on group-wide initiatives and projects.
- Lead and contribute to local and Group HSSE projects.
- Foster a strong safety culture where risks are openly discussed, unsafe work is stopped, and incidents and near misses are reported.
- Bachelor (HBO) or University (WO) Degree in Technical, Safety (HVK) or Environmental studies
- 10+ years of leading HSSE experience in an industrial environment, preferably in dry bulk storage- and handling industry.
- Experienced in liaising with governmental authorities regarding environmental permits
- Strong in managing complexity, skilled in cooperating with others across the boundaries of professional areas
- Excellent communication skills: you know how to convey a complex message effectively for various target groups
- You are pro‑active, persuasive and possess proven leadership skills
- Fluent in Dutch and English
- You are available to start on short notice
