Job summary

Virtuagym is seeking an experienced Interim Financial Controller to join the finance team for 3–6 months in Amsterdam. You will strengthen controls, manage close and compliance, and improve processes as part of a high‑performing team.

You’ll work with the CFO and Finance Management, overseeing AR, tax compliance, and reporting. Dutch GAAP/IFRS knowledge and ERP experience (NetSuite) are essential, with remote-friendly work options.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in financial control, accounting or audit (Big 4 and/or industry).
• Interim or freelance experience with a track record of adding value fast.
• A degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of Dutch GAAP and/or IFRS.
• Hands-on experience with tax (VAT/ICP, CIT) and revenue/AR processes.
• Fluency in Dutch (native level) and English.
• Availability on short notice, for 3-6 months.

• Strengthen internal controls so financial data is accurate and auditable.
• Support tax compliance and statutory filings with advisors.
• Own AR and revenue control, including reconciliations and billing accuracy.
• Run and tighten reconciliations and balance sheet substantiation.
• Contribute to monthly close and audit preparation with journal entries.

• Document processes and hand over cleanly to ensure lasting improvements.

What this role looks like

As Financial Controller, you will join an enthusiastic and ambitious finance team. You will work closely with our CFO, Finance Management and the wider Finance team, supporting our control, compliance and reporting agenda across the group. The role is broad by design: depending on your strengths and interests, you can grow your scope across compliance and revenue control over time.

What this assignment looks like

As Interim Financial Controller, you'll work closely with our CFO, Finance Management and the wider Finance team on our control, compliance and reporting agenda. This is a hands-on role with clear priorities. We need someone who can quickly understand our setup, take ownership and deliver within a defined timeframe.

What you will own

• Strengthen and improve internal controls so our financial data is accurate, reliable and auditable
• Support tax compliance (VAT, ICP, CIT) and statutory filings together with our advisors
• Own AR and revenue control, including reconciliations, revenue recognition and billing accuracy
• Run and tighten key reconciliations (AR, intercompany, bank) and balance sheet substantiation
• Contribute to monthly close and audit preparation (journal entries, PBC, schedules, walkthroughs)
• Spot gaps quickly, streamline processes and drive automation across NetSuite, Salesforce and Stripe
• Document processes and hand over cleanly, so improvements last beyond your assignment

What you will bring

• 5+ years of experience in financial control, accounting or audit (Big 4 and/or industry)
• Previous interim or freelance experience, with a track record of adding value fast
• A degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles (Dutch GAAP and/or IFRS)
• Hands-on experience with tax (VAT/ICP, CIT) and revenue/AR processes
• Proven ability to improve controls, processes or reporting (e.g. automations, reconciliations, system improvements)
• Fluency in Dutch (native level) and English. This is a hard requirement.
• Availability on short notice, for 3-6 months
• Experience with ERP systems; NetSuite, Salesforce or Stripe is a strong advantage
• You take ownership, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and don't need much ramp-up time to be effective
