About Vitestro

Founded in 2017 in Utrecht, Vitestro is pioneering the future of blood collection with the Aletta® Autonomous Robotic Phlebotomy Device™ (ARPD™). This groundbreaking medical device combines advanced multi-modal imaging (near-infrared, ultrasound, and Doppler ultrasound) with robotics and AI to perform the entire diagnostic blood draw procedure autonomously.

By addressing critical healthcare staffing shortages and improving patient experience, Vitestro is transforming one of the most common and essential medical procedures. With more than 90 team members and growing rapidly, we are scaling our impact. As we placed our first devices with customers, we are now expanding our team to ensure successful implementation and long-term reliability.

At Vitestro, we are committed to continuous innovation and improvement.

General Description

We are looking for an Integration Engineer to realize, maintain, and grow the interfaces between hospital laboratory information systems (LIS), Vitestro's venipuncture device, and the online services we use to deploy and manage our installed base. This is the connection that turns a laboratory order into a blood draw and returns a verified collection record, without it, the device cannot do its job.

Your job is realizing each new hospital connection, writing the transformations and mappings for their specific LIS, testing and going live with their IT and lab staff, and maintaining and incrementally extending our Apache Camel gateway as new requirements come in. Over time you also grow into ownership of the device IoT side of the platform: provisioning, configuration, certificate lifecycle, update distribution, and fleet health monitoring. As the platform matures, this role may also extend into adjacent connectivity initiatives — such as remote access/support tooling for hospital deployments, or setting up and maintaining internal IT integrations in n8n — though hospital LIS integration remains the core and largest part of the job.

You will join the Platform & Connectivity team and work daily with cloud engineers, backend engineers, device software engineers, the cybersecurity team, and QA/RA. Every hospital brings a different LIS, a different API, and a different network reality, so a large part of the engineering is turning that variety into something configurable rather than rebuilt for each site.

You will also be on the hospital side of the table. Realizing an interface means integration testing with hospital IT and laboratory staff, and being the person who stays calm and clear on the day of go-live.

If you enjoy hands-on integration engineering, solving challenging technical problems, and building high-quality, safe systems in a regulated environment, you will thrive in this role.

This is what success looks like:

In 12 months, multiple hospitals are live on the gateway through a configuration-driven onboarding process, with no dependency on the original build contractor. The person has taken full, independent ownership of maintaining and extending the gateway, and has grown into a meaningful role on the device IoT/fleet side of the platform — including provisioning, certificates, updates, and monitoring. As the platform matures, the role has room to expand into adjacent connectivity work, such as remote support tooling or building and maintaining internal IT integrations in n8n.

What You’ll Bring:
  • Above all: a "can do", solution-oriented mentality — someone who picks up new technical areas quickly rather than someone who already has years of depth in every tool we use
  • Background in Software Engineering or Backend Development, with 3+ years building integrations between systems — Java preferred; comparable depth in another JVM/backend language is also welcome
  • Demonstrable production integration work: routing and transformation, mapping between systems with different data models, error handling, and automated testing of interfaces. Apache Camel experience is a plus since it's our orchestration layer, but not a requirement
  • Working knowledge of REST APIs (auth, versioning, error handling) — depth in idempotency/versioning nuances can be picked up on the job
  • Comfortable working with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, OpenTofu, Pulumi, or AWS CDK) — prior hands-on experience is a plus, not a requirement
  • Basic understanding of security fundamentals for cross-organizational interfaces (mTLS, certificates, secrets management) — willingness and ability to get up to speed here matters more than existing depth
  • Proficiency with Linux and scripting in Python or Bash
  • The ability to sit with a hospital IT architect or a laboratory manager and agree an interface without either side leaving the room confused
  • Dutch and English at professional level, written and spoken — you will work in collaboration with Dutch hospitals
Valuable, but not required:
  • AWS fundamentals: containerised workloads, managed databases, secrets management, logging, and monitoring
  • Experience delivering software in a regulated industry
  • Familiarity with healthcare data standards such as FHIR
  • Device fleet management at scale: AWS IoT, edge deployment, and over-the-air update mechanisms
  • Having commissioned interfaces on hospital premises, with the scheduling and change-window realities that come with it
How We Work

At Vitestro, ownership is not a slogan - it is an expectation. We trust people to take responsibility, make decisions, and drive work forward.

We believe breakthroughs happen when talented people combine dedication, accountability, and teamwork. That means:

We take initiative rather than wait for direction.

We focus on execution and delivering results.

We proactively remove blockers and help each other succeed.

We challenge ideas, not people.

We continuously learn, improve, and raise the bar.

We celebrate team success over individual heroics.

We move fast, but we do so thoughtfully. We care deeply about quality because the technology we build ultimately impacts patients and healthcare professionals.

If you are looking for an environment where you can make a significant contribution, take ownership of meaningful work, and be surrounded by highly motivated colleagues, we'd love to meet you.

What we offer
  • Competitive salary including pension plan
  • 25 days of annual leave based on a full-time position
  • Working together in a high-skilled team with our home base in Utrecht
  • Frequent out-of-work activities with our team, and annual company weekend away.
  • Opportunity to be key shaper of a new global industry niche: autonomous medical robotics

We’re big fans of working from the office – this is where team spirit comes alive. At the same time, we offer flexibility, allowing up to two (out of 5) days of working from home for those who prefer it.
