Job summary

Supergrads is seeking a technically curious Performance Engineer to join a team dedicated to understanding and improving the performance of complex electronic trading environments.

Key focus areas include Python-based data analysis, networks and Linux, with the role sitting at the intersection of systems engineering, quantitative analysis, networking and experimental research. You will investigate latency sources and develop practical improvements.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of computer architecture, networking and/or Linux.
• Experience applying reverse engineering or black-box analysis to complex technical systems.
• Experience using Python for data analysis, modelling or system investigation.

Responsibilities

• Investigate complex systems using black-box analysis, reverse-engineering, and structured experimentation to identify performance improvements.
• Work with large volumes of data to uncover patterns and investigate unexpected behavior in exchange and network technology.
• Identify latency and efficiency improvements across the technology stack, from connectivity to trading infrastructure.
• Develop lightweight prototypes and proofs-of-concept to test new approaches before moving to implementation.
• Collaborate with traders, software engineers, hardware specialists and infrastructure teams to translate findings into practical changes.
• Analyze network behavior with large datasets, performing statistical analyses and experiments to validate theories.
