Job summary

Gekko Trading B.V. in Amsterdam seeks a finance leader to own the entire finance function, including P&L and strategic discussions, reporting to the founder.

You will build management reporting, manage multi-currency flows, and partner with commercial teams to drive profitability, with AI-enabled processes and scalable finance systems.

This is a hands-on, entrepreneurial role in a fast-moving, international trading environment with real ownership and impact.

Qualifications

• 4–6 years of experience in a rigorous finance environment (Big 4, in-house controlling or FP&A).
• Ability to own P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow with questions that drive decisions.
• Experience with multi-currency transactions and FX exposure.
• Comfort with AI-powered reporting and financial modelling.

Responsibilities

• Own the P&L and present financial performance with commercial insight.
• Build and maintain real-time management reporting on margins, costs and cash.
• Oversee multi-currency transactions (EUR, USD, African currencies) and FX exposure.
• Oversee AP/AR, reconciliations, supplier payments, VAT, tax and payroll coordination.
• Partner with sales to evaluate deal profitability, pricing and growth opportunities.
• Lead process improvements and AI-enabled automation in the finance stack.

Gekko Trading is a young, ambitious international trading company based in Amsterdam. We source and ship food commodities to markets across West and Central Africa — over 500 shipments per year and growing fast. Our business moves at pace: multi-currency flows, dynamic supplier relationships, and a broad global partner network across multiple markets.

We're a tight team of four (and growing), which means every person here has real ownership, real visibility, and real impact. We're looking for a finance leader who wants to help build Gekko Trading — not just report on it.

The Role

This is a rare opportunity for someone early in their finance career to step into full ownership of a finance function — operational, analytical, and strategic — at a company on a steep growth trajectory. You'll report directly to the founder, sit at the decision-making table, and work closely with an experienced external financial advisor on the strategic layer.

What You'll Own

• Own the P&L: track, analyse, and present financial performance to the founder with clarity and commercial insight
• Build and maintain management reporting that gives the business a real-time view of margins, costs, and cash
• Manage multi-currency transactions across supplier and customer flows (EUR, USD, African currencies) and develop growing familiarity with our FX exposure
• Oversee account reconciliations, supplier payments, and the full AP/AR cycle
• Ensure VAT, corporate tax, and payroll compliance in coordination with our external accountant

Business Partnering & Commercial Support

• Be the finance voice in commercial conversations and partner with the sales team to evaluate deal profitability, pricing, and growth opportunities
• Help the founder make better decisions faster by translating financial data into clear, actionable intelligence
• Support evaluation of new markets, suppliers, and partnership structures
• Contribute to investor and bank reporting as the business scales

Process, Automation & Systems

• Audit the current finance stack (Exact Online, Airtable, Excel) and drive meaningful improvements
• Proactively build and deploy AI-powered solutions — from automating reporting flows and reconciliations to building smarter financial models that sharpen how we see the business
• Take a helicopter view: spot where data, reporting, or processes can be done better and smarter, and actually do something about it — using AI tools to create practical, scalable solutions
• Build scalable finance processes that can support 2x–5x growth without proportional overhead

What We're Looking For

Around 4–6 years of experience in a rigorous finance environment — Big 4, in-house controlling or FP&A at a growth company, or a combination of both. You've worked at pace, built things, and aren't waiting to be told what to do.

• Strong command of P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow — you can read a set of accounts and immediately know what questions to ask
• Proactive about building and using AI tools to improve, optimise and do things better and faster — you spot where something can be done smarter and you build the solution, not just flag the problem
• Hands‑on with Excel; familiarity with Exact Online or a similar ERP is a plus
• Comfortable owning both the operational detail and the commercial conversation — you're not just a bean counter
• Entrepreneurial mindset: you move fast, take initiative, and thrive with ownership rather than instruction
• Track record of improving processes and building things, not just maintaining the status quo
• Natural communicator across finance and non-finance stakeholders
• Fluent English; French is a bonus given our West African market focus
