Job summary

CowManager is seeking a Firmware Engineer to design, develop and optimize firmware for its sensor systems and network components. You will work across bare-metal and RTOS environments, using C and Python to build energy-efficient embedded software.

The role involves collaboration with hardware, software and product teams in a fast-growing, global company. The office is located on a working dairy farm in Harmelen, NL, offering opportunities for innovation, deep technical work and personal growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Embedded Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a similar field.
• At least 5 years of experience in embedded software development.
• Strong knowledge of C and Python.
• Experience with low-power embedded systems.
• Experience with wireless communication protocols (802.15.4, Zigbee, Bluetooth).
• Experience with bare-metal development and RTOS (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, Embedded Linux).
• Ability to read and understand electronic schematics.
• Experience with oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
• Proficiency in English.

As a Firmware Engineer, you will work on the software that runs in our sensors, network components and other embedded systems. You will be involved in the full development cycle: from architecture and design to implementation, testing and optimization.

You will work in a multidisciplinary development team where hardware, firmware, software and product development collaborate closely. You will also have plenty of opportunity to contribute ideas on technical choices and the future development of our products.

Your responsibilities

• Designing, developing and maintaining firmware for sensors and network components
• Developing software primarily in C and Python
• Working on energy-efficient embedded solutions
• Implementing and optimizing wireless communication protocols
• Developing software for bare-metal systems and RTOS platforms
• Analyzing and solving complex technical challenges
• Supporting testing, validation and quality improvements
• Collaborating with hardware engineers, software developers, testers and product management
• Contributing to architecture choices and future technical developments
