Job summary

uniQure seeks a Financial Accountant to join the Amsterdam-based Accounting Team. You will handle monthly journals in SAP, reconcile ledgers, and prepare P&L and balance sheet analyses. Collaboration with the Senior Director Global Accounting and local Finance Manager is essential to ensure accurate, timely close and compliance.

The role emphasizes accounting for global entities, VAT in the Netherlands, and audit support in a dynamic, high-stakes environment at our Amsterdam HQ.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Economics.
• 3–5 years of related experience in an international company.
• Excellent communication skills and business partnering abilities.
• Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Office products.
• Experience with process automation using AI (RPA/Bots) is a plus; ability to create SAP rules.
• Ability to perform accurate work in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to prioritize and be a self-starter.
• Experience in diverse, international environments.
• Excellent knowledge of English (verbal and written).

Responsibilities

• Enter monthly accounting journals in SAP and reconcile ledgers.
• Review AP postings in SAP and assist in GRIR checks.
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts and P&L with SOX compliance.
• Prepare accruals, prepayments, loan and leases schedules.
• Monthly FX rate reviews in SAP.
• Maintain fixed assets register and depreciation.
• Create VAT reports and file VAT returns for NL codes.
• Assist in external/internal audit preparations and inquiries.
• Participate in cross-functional process improvements.

Position Overview

The Role

The Financial Accountant is part of our Accounting Team based in Amsterdam (uniQure Corporate HQ) and will be operating in a dynamic environment, reporting to the Senior Director Global Accounting and working closely together with the Amsterdam based Finance Manager and team. The position will focus on the accounting for uniQure global entities, as well as preparation of P&L, monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts. Experience with working in a US public company environment and with SOx404 requirements is a plus. The right person will have the experience, passion, and energy to successfully fulfill a wide variety GL tasks.

Job Objectives And Responsibilities

• Enter monthly accounting journals in SAP, reconcile ledgers and other records detailing financial business transactions (e.g. bank statements application in SAP and reconciliations, rent, service cost and lease contracts accruals, Contractors and SG&A accruals, Fixed Assets, other)
• AP- Assists in the review of the AP team’s invoice postings from SAP (GL and cost center classification), check (GRIR), check bank payments
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts and P&L and effectively execute processes that are SOX compliant
• Prepare and reconcile accruals and prepayments, loan and leases schedules
• Monthly analytical review of foreign exchange rates applied in SAP
• Maintain the (in)tangible fixed assets register and record monthly depreciation/amortization
• Create VAT reports from SAP, prepare the VAT return and submit the periodic returns. Knowledge of the Netherlands’ VAT codes (e.g. 4A, 5B etc.) and how it is applied is essential.
• Assist in external & internal audit preparations and queries
• Actively participate and bring value to cross functional meetings intended to improve or automate accounting and control processes.
  

Qualifications/ Core Competences

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Economics
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through 3 – 5 years of related experience in an international company, including experience with accounting systems (SAP4HANA is preferred)
• Good communication skills, business partnering.
• Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office products
• Experience with process automation using AI (e.g. Claude, Robot Processing Automation (RPA), Bots, etc.) is preferred. Creating rules in SAP to automate monthly journal postings.
• Ability to perform accurate and detailed work in a dynamic environment
• Knows how to prioritize and get things done. Be a self-starter
• Experience or affinity with working in a diverse and international environment
• Excellent knowledge of English language, both verbal as written
