Job summary

Zero Motorcycles is seeking a Firmware Test Engineer to help deliver robust firmware that protects riders and preserves the bike’s performance. You will build automated tests for battery management, motor controller, display, and other subsystems, validate CAN/UART communications, and expand coverage across functional, boundary, regression, and failure modes.

Collaboration across Netherlands, US, and India is expected, with a strong emphasis on evidence-based testing and AI-assisted workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, or a closely related field.
• 3–5 years of experience testing embedded software or firmware on real hardware.
• Ability to read C/C++ to follow execution paths and validate tests.
• Proficient in Python for test automation.
• Hands-on experience with CAN and UART for testing/diagnostics.
• Methodical in investigating failures using code, logs, hardware, and lab equipment.
• Ability to write clear findings for other engineers to reproduce and act on.
• Familiar with using AI as part of engineering workflow, with discernment when not to trust it.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain automated tests verifying firmware behaviour across vehicle subsystems.
• Validate CAN and UART communication; identify regressions early.
• Shorten feedback loop between firmware changes and confidence in impact.
• Use logs, telemetry, and lab equipment to reproduce unexpected behaviour.
• Document findings clearly so others can reproduce and act on them.
• Collaborate with firmware, BMS, vehicle architecture, service, production, and product teams.
• Contribute test strategies, participate in design discussions and code reviews.
