Job summary

Zero Motorcycles, Inc. is seeking a Firmware Test Engineer to validate embedded firmware across bike subsystems, including CAN, UART, and diagnostics. You will develop automated tests, analyze failures, and work across firmware, BMS, and vehicle teams to improve test coverage and reliability.

The role emphasizes hands-on testing on real hardware, experience with HIL/SIL environments, and collaboration across multiple time zones. A safety‑critical mindset and passion for motorcycles are valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, EE, or related field.
• 3–5 years in embedded/firmware testing on real hardware.
• Strong C/C++ reading and debugging.
• Proficient Python for test automation.
• Experience with CAN/UART testing and diagnostics.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain automated tests across firmware subsystems (BMS, motor controller, display, etc.).
• Validate CAN and UART communications; flag regressions and enable reproducibility.
• Expand coverage and improve HIL/SIL environments to catch issues before field deployment.
• Reconstruct unexpected behavior using logs, telemetry, and lab equipment; create reproducible tests.
• Collaborate with firmware, BMS, vehicle architecture, service, and product teams to clarify intended behavior and risks.
