Job summary

TU Delft invites applications for ERC-funded PhD positions in Theoretical Chemistry and Physics within the Alessio group of the Department of Quantum Nanoscience. The SPINOCCHIO project aims to develop a new quantum chemical approach for spins on surfaces, addressing magnetic behavior and spin relaxation in molecular systems on surfaces.

Qualifications

  • MSc in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or related field.
  • Strong background in condensed matter theory and electronic structure methods.
  • Knowledge of magnetism and open-shell systems.
  • Experience with computational methods and scientific programming.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a new quantum chemical approach combining periodic embedding with strong correlation.
  • Investigate spin behavior and relaxation on surfaces.
  • Contribute to the ERC SPINOCCHIO project.
  • Collaborate with the Alessio group and TU Delft researchers.
