Job summary

Radboud University’s Department of Environmental Science invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor in Environmental Risk Assessment. You will develop and apply next-generation models for emissions, fate, exposure and ecological effects of pollutants, and contribute to education and curriculum.

The role offers a temporary one-year contract with the possibility of permanency, alongside leadership in developing an independent research programme within a collaborative environment

Qualifications

• You hold a PhD in environmental risk assessment, environmental modelling, or a closely related field.
• You have expertise in integrating environmental data, scientific knowledge, and advanced computational approaches that can contribute to environmental risk assessment.
• You have a demonstrated ability or clear potential to develop an internationally recognised research profile in environmental risk assessment, as evidenced by, for example, high-quality publications or invited lectures.
• You have a demonstrated ability or clear potential to attract competitive research funding.
• You have experience in university teaching and student supervision and are committed to contributing to the development of education.
• You possess strong communication, collaboration and leadership skills and are motivated to translate scientific insights into societal impact.

Responsibilities

• You will be expected to develop and apply next-generation (multi-compartment) models for the prediction of emissions, environmental fate, exposure and/or ecological impacts of pollutants, such as chemicals, plastics and nutrients, across spatial and temporal scales.
• There is an urgent need for these models within the context of several European policies such as the EU’s zero pollution ambition for a non-toxic environment, the Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design (SSbD) policy and the current policy to reduce animal testing (3R policy).
• The novel assessment models that you will develop should align with these policies.
• The project will involve developing an independent research programme embedded in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment.
• You will also contribute to the Bachelor's and Master's programmes in Biology, including coordinating and teaching courses and supervising internships, and developing curricula.
• As an Assistant/Associate Professor, you will take up management tasks within and beyond the Department of Environmental Science, contributing to societal impact.
• Academic staff typically have a 40-40-20% distribution of research, education and management.
