Job summary

An international consultancy firm is seeking an Environmental and Social Specialist to support a port infrastructure project in Kiritimati Island. The role involves monitoring environmental feasibility studies and requires a university degree and at least ten years of relevant experience. Candidates with experience in ports are preferred. The position offers a contract for 24 months starting in Q3 2025.

Qualifications

• Ten years of experience in environmental or social management.
• Experience in preparing ESIA for infrastructure projects.
• Conversant with regional issues is an advantage.
• Experience on at least two (2) infrastructure projects in relation to the preparation of ESIA and/or monitoring of environmental and social management plans and measures in accordance IFI standards;
• Experience on ports and harbours infrastructure projects is required;
• Additional marks accorded if candidates are conversant with the region.

Overview

NTU International A/S is leading a consortium for the implementation of the EIB funded project called: Technical Assistance and Project Management for Port infrastructure development in Kiritimati Island and is searching for experts to support the core team during the implementation of this project.

The overall objective of this assignment is to support the implementation and monitoring of all the technical, financial, economic, environmental and social feasibility studies in view of possibly constructing and operating a multi-purpose port and associate infrastructures to accommodate requirements for handling cargo from cargo, container and fishing vessels and accommodating cruise liners for tourism.

Duration: The intended start date is Q3 2025 and the period of implementation of the Assignment will be 24 (twenty-four) months from this date.

Key Expert: Environmental and Social Specialist (Cat. II)

Qualifications and skills:

• University degree in engineering, environmental or social sciences or other relevant field.
• Fluency and working command of English language.
• At least ten (10) years of experience in the field of environmental or social management.
• Experience on at least two (2) infrastructure projects in relation to the preparation of ESIA and/or monitoring of environmental and social management plans and measures in accordance IFI standards;
• Experience on ports and harbours infrastructure projects is required;
• Additional marks accorded if candidates are conversant with the region.
