Job summary

WannaFlex is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead two development teams (each ~5–6 engineers) building a cloud-based SaaS platform. You will blend people leadership with technical decision-making, guiding architecture and AI adoption in a challenging environment.

You will work closely with Product Owners and architects, setting priorities, removing blockers and improving CI/CD and DevOps practices while maintaining a strong technical foundation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in software development with strong system architecture knowledge.
• 2+ years of formal people management experience in software engineering.
• Experience with microservices, cloud platforms and modern software delivery.
• Hands-on experience with generative AI tools and enthusiasm for further adoption.
• A decisive, structured leader who communicates clearly, delegates and takes ownership.
• Professional fluency in English.

You'll combine people leadership, technical decision-making and practical AI adoption in a complex engineering environment.

Organization

Our client is an established Dutch software company in the insurance industry. Its international engineering teams are developing a new multi-tenant SaaS platform while migrating existing customers.

Expect a technically challenging product environment focused on ownership, collaboration, continuous improvement and modern development practices, including AI.

Function

As an Engineering Manager, you'll lead two development teams of approximately 5–6 engineers each, working on financial transactions and external communication services.You'll combine people management with technical leadership, coaching engineers, reviewing system designs and guiding architectural decisions. You'll focus on improving software delivery, quality, CI/CD and DevOps practices, while encouraging practical AI adoption.

You'll set priorities, manage dependencies and remove blockers, working closely with Product Owners, architects and engineering leaders. You report to the Head of Engineering. You won't need to code daily, but a strong technical foundation is essential.

Requirements

• 5+ years in software development, with strong system architecture and object-oriented programming knowledge.
• 2+ years of formal people management experience in software engineering.
• Experience with microservices, cloud platforms and modern software delivery.
• Hands-on experience with generative AI tools and enthusiasm for further adoption.
• A decisive, structured leader who communicates clearly, delegates and takes ownership.
• Professional fluency in English.

Nice to have: Java, AWS, multi-tenant SaaS or financial services experience.

Experience with Azure, GCP or other object-oriented languages is equally welcome. Technical understanding matters more than a specific stack.

Offer

• Salary up to €8,000 gross/month (40 hours), plus holiday allowance and a 13th month.
• 32–40 hours per week, hybrid in Amersfoort (office days: Monday and Wednesday).
