Job summary

University of Twente is seeking a two‑year EngD candidate to design a standardized protocol for fieldwork and data handling of GPR measurements at the Utility Mapping Site (UMS). You will outline procedures, metadata and performance indicators to ensure consistent measurements across systems and environments, contributing to a benchmark dataset used in future data‑driven innovations.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Geomatics, Geoinformation Science, Spatial Engineering, or related field.
• Familiarity with underground infrastructure, utility mapping and geospatial data collection.
• Experience with GIS, surveying, spatial data processing or related geomatics technologies.

Responsibilities

• Develop a consistent approach for conducting Ground Penetrating Radar measurements at the Utility Mapping Site.
• Build a data management protocol for collection, storage and documentation of GPR data.
• Establish measurement conditions and metadata for detailed comparison of GPR systems.
• Plan and complete repeated field measurement campaigns using different GPR systems.
• Develop and sustain a benchmark dataset for utility mapping research.
• Collaborate with infrastructure owners, contractors and researchers in ZoARG program.
• Translate findings into practical recommendations for measurement practice and technology evaluation.
