Job summary

University of Twente seeks a highly motivated EngD candidate to design a standardized protocol for fieldwork and data handling of Ground Penetrating Radar measurements at the Utility Mapping Site. You will develop metadata, procedures and benchmarks to enable consistent cross-system comparisons.

Working within ZoARG, you will conduct campaigns, build a comprehensive data management framework, and collaborate with academic and industrial partners to translate results into practical guidance for

Qualifications

• Master's degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Geomatics, Geoinformation Science, Spatial Engineering, or a related field.
• Familiarity with underground infrastructure, utility mapping, and geospatial data collection.
• Interest in developing measurement procedures, data protocols and benchmark datasets.
• Experience with GIS, surveying, spatial data processing or related geomatics technologies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and with teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop a consistent approach for conducting GPR measurements at the Utility Mapping Site.
• Build a data management protocol for collection, storage and documentation of GPR data.
• Establish pertinent measurement conditions and metadata for detailed comparison of GPR systems.
• Plan and execute repeated field measurement campaigns using different GPR systems.
• Develop and sustain a well-organized benchmark dataset for utility mapping research.
• Collaborate with infrastructure owners, contractors, technology providers, and ZoARG researchers.
• Report findings and translate results into practical recommendations for measurement practice and technology evaluation.
