Job description

For our client, a global leader in industrial process fluids with its EMEA headquarters based in the Amsterdam region, we are seeking an experienced Logistics Manager to take responsibility for a large and strategically important international region. Seven to ten manufacturing sites. More than twenty warehouses. Thousands of SKUs, including a range of hazardous materials. And a supply chain that needs to perform every day for customers whose own production operations cannot afford to stop. That is the scale and complexity of this role.

The Role

This is an operational leadership role with regional reach. With an emphasis on this being a role focused on structuring and optimizing logistical processes, rather than an execution oriented position. Our client’s products are an integral part of the manufacturing processes of leading steel, aluminium and automotive producers. When the supply chain does not perform, their customers’ production lines can come to a standstill. Your responsibility is to ensure this does not happen.

At the same time, there is significant opportunity to improve and professionalise the current logistics setup. A considerable part of the operation is still managed manually and through fragmented data and systems. This role is therefore not simply about keeping the operation running, it is about bringing structure, transparency and data driven decisionmaking to the organisation.

You will be expected to establish clear processes, implement structured performance management and build strong partnerships with external logistics providers. Maintaining operational continuity is the foundation; driving continuous improvement is the mandate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate logistics activities across the EMEA region, with a strong focus on operational efficiency, service quality and cost performance.
  • Manage and develop relationships with external warehouses and logistics providers through KPI-driven performance management and structured governance.
  • Lead a team of five direct reports across planning, warehousing and shipping, while providing direction to a significant wider indirect organisation.
  • Support manufacturing sites with overflow management and the selection, coordination and optimisation of external storage capacity.
  • Own the regional logistics budget and work closely with Procurement to negotiate and deliver competitive freight and warehousing rates.
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations and applicable health, safety and environmental standards, with particular attention to the handling and storage of hazardous materials.
  • Partner closely with Procurement, Sales, Customer Service and Finance within a complex international matrix organisation.
  • Drive the standardisation and continuous improvement of logistics processes, moving the organisation towards a more structured and data-driven operating model.
Your Profile
  • 6-8 years of experience leading logistics operations and managing external logistics service providers within an international environment.
  • A background in industrial manufacturing, preferably within chemicals, food, lubricants, oil & gas or a related process industry.
  • Demonstrated experience managing 3PL providers and warehousing operations through clearly defined KPIs and performance management.
  • Experience working in a multinational matrix organisation, managing stakeholders across different countries and cultures.
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration or a related field.
  • Fluent in English; a working knowledge of Dutch is considered a strong advantage.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 20-25% of the time within the region.
What our client offers

A competitive employment package, including a performance based bonus and company car, combined with the opportunity to take ownership of a complex and highly visible international logistics operation.

This is an excellent opportunity for a logistics leader who enjoys working in a hands on, international and operationally critical environment and who has the ambition to bring greater structure, control and continuous improvement to a complex EMEA supply chain.
