Job summary

Edison Smart in the Netherlands is seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineer to design and develop firmware for IoT hardware products, working across the full product lifecycle from concept to production.

The role offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with hardware, testing, and production teams, with exposure to end-to-end product development and potential growth into more senior firmware positions.

Qualifications

• 0–2 years of embedded firmware experience or relevant academic projects.
• Proficient in C/C++ for embedded environments.
• Experience with ARM STM32 or similar MCUs.
• Familiar with UART, SPI, I2C, CAN.
• Hardware debugging skills (JTAG, oscilloscopes).
• Understanding of electronics and schematics.
• Basic knowledge of RTOS is a plus.
• Proficient with Git for version control.
• Some experience with Python or C# is a bonus.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems or similar.

Working with a global IoT and asset tracking business, building robust, scalable hardware products used across multiple industries. This is a great opportunity for an early-career engineer to get hands‑on across the full product lifecycle, working closely with hardware and production teams.

Ideal background:

• 0–2 years experience in embedded firmware development (or strong academic projects)
• Strong experience with C / C++ in embedded environments
• Exposure to microcontrollers (ARM, STM32 or similar)
• Understanding of communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN)
• Experience debugging on hardware (JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analysers)
• Basic understanding of electronics and schematic reading
• Exposure to RTOS or real-time systems (nice to have)
• Familiarity with Git or version control
• Some experience with Python or C# is a bonus
