Job summary

Garmin Nederland in Oegstgeest seeks an Embedded Software Engineer to design, implement and maintain firmware for Tacx smart trainers. You’ll write C for microcontrollers, bring up software on bare boards, and collaborate with mechanical and hardware engineers to deliver manufacturable products worldwide.

You’ll work in a multi-disciplinary team in the Engineering and R&D department, reporting to the Product Software Team Lead. English communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in software engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field.
• Strong familiarity with the C programming language.
• Experience creating software for microcontrollers on embedded systems (bare-metal or RTOS).
• Experience using SPI, UART, and I2C to interface with sensors and ICs.
• Basic understanding of physics, math, and mechanics as they apply to cycling and trainers.
• Experience with Python or scripting languages is a plus.
• Solid written and verbal English communication; Dutch is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, and implement microcontroller software for Tacx cycling trainer products in C.
• Bring up software on bare boards and validate platform performance.
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to prepare products for manufacture and test interfaces.
• Provide input to project managers for realistic schedules and milestones.
• Break down software requirements into tasks and coordinate software releases.
• Participate in peer code reviews, design reviews, and technical brainstorming.
• Assist hardware engineers and mentor less experienced software engineers and interns.
