Job summary

FSO Instruments in the Netherlands is looking for a medior Embedded Software Engineer to help shape the future of space communication. You will contribute to a modular software suite for space-grade optical subsystems, ensuring robust performance from launch to end-of-life.

The role emphasizes embedded C/C++ firmware, deterministic real-time control, hardware bring-up, and rigorous testing in a cross-disciplinary environment, with opportunities to advance in laser satellite communication tech.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years embedded software experience, preferably in space or high-tech environments.
• Strong knowledge of embedded software, RTOS, and low-level programming.
• Proficient in C and C++.
• Experience with UART, SPI, I2C and hardware/software co-design.

Responsibilities

• Firmware Development — develop embedded C/C++ firmware for MCUs, FPGAs, or SoCs controlling optical subsystems.
• Real-Time Control — create deterministic control loops for actuators, gimbals and fine-steering mirrors.
• Hardware Integration — bring-up boards, debug interfaces, and validate revisions.
• Optical Payload Support — drivers and control logic for lasers, detectors, ADC/DAC chains.
• Testing & Verification — unit tests, HIL tests, and environmental testing participation.
• Documentation & Reviews — contribute to ICDs and design reviews.
