Job summary

Quaker Houghton is seeking a Development Chemist – Cold Rolling Fluids to join the EMEA Product Development Team in Uithoorn, NL. You will develop and improve formulations, conduct bench tests, and collaborate with Commercial, Operations, and Supply Chain to meet customer needs.

The role requires chemistry education, at least 2 years' experience, and strong English communication; some Dutch is desirable. Occasional customer visits and a strong safety mindset are expected.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years working experience in a similar role in the chemical sector.
• Interest or background in physical/organic chemistry, colloid chemistry or metallurgy.
• English proficiency; Dutch conversational level is highly desired.
• Driver's license for customer visits and high safety consciousness.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve Cold Rolling Fluids formulations for the EMEA steel market.
• Participate in product development projects with cross-functional teams.
• Carry out lab work for tests, benchmarking and determinations.

The Development Chemist – Cold Rolling Fluids will work within the EMEA Product Development Team, located in Uithoorn, NL. Focused on improving our products in order to meet customer needs, solve application problems and staying up to date on new market trends such as increasing sustainable sourcing, new electrical metal applications and whatever comes next.

What will you do?

• Develop and improve Cold Rolling Fluids formulations used in the EMEA steel market, focused on meeting tinplating related customer needs such as enhancing processes, safety and quality improvement.
• Participate in product development projects as part of an experienced team and in cooperation with all involved parties such as Commercial, Operations, Supply Chain and key customer stakeholders as well.
• Carry out all lab work necessary for tests, benchmarking and determinations, in order to answer questions and provide new solutions to customers as well as perform customer requested product analysis.
• Communicate results to management and peers to contribute towards R&D knowledge sharing.
• Occasionally visit customer sites.

What do we look for?

• Experience: At least 2 years working experience in a similar role, ideally within the chemical sector such as lubricants, greases, oils, coatings or other surface science related subjects.
• Ideal opportunity for someone who is motivated to work with both chemical & physicochemical matters and with a good balance between stakeholder collaboration meetings, benchwork and theoretical work.
• Education: Chemistry related higher education studies. Interest or background in physical/organic chemistry, colloid chemistry and/or metallurgy.
• Language skills: English good verbal and written communication level is a must. Conversational level of Dutch is highly desired.
• Driving license and driving experience is required for customer visits.
• Soft skills: Fast learner, growth mind-set, autonomous and self motivated.
• High safety consciousness is a must. Safety is at the core of our culture.
