Job summary

FairPlay Engineering is seeking a Design Manager for Mission Critical Facilities to lead high-quality building design across global data centre projects. You will guide multidisciplinary teams, manage design budgets, and ensure compliance with client requirements using 3D design tools.

The ideal candidate has a Master’s in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, 15+ years of leadership in design and construction, and fluency in English (Dutch/German helpful).

• 15+ years of multidisciplinary design, engineering and construction project management experience.
• Experience in data centres or similar sectors.

As a Design Manager, you will leverage your advanced knowledge and skills in building design to lead and deliver high-quality solutions for our Mission Critical Facilities projects. You will work with some of the most demanding customers globally, collaborating with colleagues from various regions. Using 3D design tools, you will ensure that our projects meet the highest standards of detail and quality.

• Oversee the scope-of-work, design budget, and contract documents for each project.
• Follow and update the design delivery schedule and distribute workload within the team.
• Coordinate and optimize designs with a multi-disciplinary team and external parties.
• Lead and challenge design solutions and implement changes where necessary.
• Create and communicate innovative ideas and designs to clients and the team.

What do you need

• Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Over 15 years of experience managing multidisciplinary design, engineering, and construction projects, preferably in data centres or other relevant sectors.
• Affinity with digital and automated design and engineering processes (BIM360, CDE).
• Good knowledge of standard practices in the design and construction industry, and a good understanding of the daily (operational) business of clients.
• Excellent communication skills towards colleagues and clients; fluency in English (preferably Dutch and/or German).
