Qualifications

• Master's degree in a technical or quantitative field.
• 7+ years of professional data analysis using Python.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python.
• Experience with PySpark and Databricks.
• Experience developing dashboards and analytical solutions using Power BI.
• Experience building end-to-end, production-ready analytical solutions.
• Strong knowledge of Git / repositories, version control, CI/CD or data pipelines and testing frameworks.
• Experience mentoring or guiding junior and mid-level colleagues.

Senior Insights Data Scientist - Transaction Monitoring

Location: Utrecht, Netherlands
Hours: 36 hours per week
Length: 1 year
Client: Major Dutch financial institution

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Insights Data Scientist to join a specialist Financial Economic Crime and Transaction Monitoring team.

You will work with large-scale transaction data covering more than 9.5 million customers, developing automated analytical solutions that help optimise Transaction Monitoring rules, identify areas for improvement and support better data-driven decision-making.

This is a senior, hands‑on role combining Data Science, Python development, advanced analytics and stakeholder management. You will take analytical solutions from initial business question through to production‑ready implementation.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop analytical models and decision logic to identify customer segments, parameters and Transaction Monitoring rules that should be prioritised for optimisation.
• Build and improve analytical pipelines to automate rule‑tuning processes and scalable multi‑parameter analysis.
• Translate Above‑the‑Line and Below‑the‑Line tuning processes into practical, data‑driven recommendations.
• Analyse complex Transaction Monitoring and financial crime datasets using Python and PySpark.
• Develop production‑ready dashboards, analytical tools and decision‑support solutions.
• Deliver end‑to‑end analytical projects, from understanding the business requirement through to implementation and stakeholder presentation.
• Work with repositories, version control, automated pipelines and testing frameworks.
• Present complex analytical findings clearly to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Support and guide junior and medior Data Scientists while contributing to the technical direction of the team.
• Work closely with colleagues across Business, Technology and Operations.

Required Experience

• A Master's degree in a technical or quantitative field.
• 7+ years of professional data analysis / Data Science experience using Python.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Python.

• Experience developing dashboards and analytical solutions using Power BI.
• Experience building end‑to‑end, production‑ready analytical solutions.
