Job summary

Arboretica, a young start-up using machine learning and data science to empower environmental organizations to uncover insights from public data, is offering a data scientist intern position in Rotterdam, with a hybrid work option.

You will work directly with the CEO and CTO, along with product and development teams, to deliver scalable data products in a small, multidisciplinary agile team and grow your career while solving real problems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Business Analytics, or related field.
• Strong programming in Python and Jupyter Notebook/Lab environment.
• Solid understanding of NLP for text cleaning, tokenization, translation, sentiment analysis.
• Familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs) and related frameworks a plus.
• Experience building web apps using Python frameworks like Django or Flask.
• Experience with data wrangling: query, clean, and manipulate data for analysis.
• Passion for exploring public data for insights.

Responsibilities

• Learn Arboretica’s proprietary algorithms to solve diverse problems.
• Develop application prototypes and rapid tests based on user feedback.
• Assist in building the UI for the LLM application; contribute to data pipelines.
• Interpret and analyze results from various algorithms.
• Evaluate the accuracy of different algorithms.
• Conduct routine and ad-hoc research to support development.
