Job summary

Booking.com is seeking a Data Engineer II to build and evolve the BI and AI Analytics Platform in Central Tech. You’ll work across semantic modelling, data governance, and scalable data models, enabling trusted analytics experiences using Snowflake Intelligence, Semantic Views, Cortex Agents, and ThoughtSpot.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, ensure automation and observability, and help scale data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 4–6+ years of experience in data platform engineering, analytics engineering, or BI platform roles.
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake, dbt, and semantic layer technologies.
• Strong understanding of semantic modeling, metric layers, data governance, and BI consumption patterns.
• Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (Python preferred).
• Experience with cloud environments (AWS preferred) and modern data infrastructure.
• Experience with BI and analytics platforms such as ThoughtSpot, Tableau, or similar.
• Experience with AI-powered or conversational analytics, LLM/agent concepts, or agentic systems is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Own and contribute to the design and implementation of the Semantic Layer foundation, leveraging technologies such as Snowflake Semantic Views and dbt.
• Contribute to the development and operation of AI-powered analytics capabilities, including Snowflake Intelligence, Cortex/Insight Agents, Cortex Search, and ThoughtSpot.
• Build and evolve platform capabilities for AI Analytics, including agent evaluation, observability, guardrails, access controls and integrations with semantic models.
• Build and maintain scalable, reusable, and governed data models that serve as a single source of truth for analytics and BI use cases.
• Define and enforce data governance standards, including metric definitions, data contracts, access controls, and lifecycle management.
• Design and operate the infrastructure supporting semantic and BI workloads, ensuring high availability, performance, and cost efficiency.
• Collaborate with data engineers and analytics teams to ensure seamless integration between data pipelines and semantic models.
• Support and enhance BI tools (e.g., ThoughtSpot, Tableau) and ensure alignment with the semantic layer.
