Job summary

ALTEN is seeking a Data Engineer to join our team in Rotterdam. You will design, build and maintain data pipelines using Databricks, develop ETL/ELT workflows in cloud environments (Azure and/or AWS), and collaborate with Agile/DevOps teams to deliver robust data solutions.

You will work with Python, PySpark and Pandas to collect, clean and transform data for analytics and reporting, while adhering to CI/CD, version control and data governance practices. A hybrid work setup is available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering or related fields.
• 3-5 years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role.
• Hands-on experience with Databricks.
• Programming skills in Python, PySpark, and Pandas.
• Experience in data-governed environments, with CI/CD, version control (Git), and automation.
• Familiarity with mathematics and statistics.
• Experience working with Scrum, Agile, and DevOps.
• Fluency in English and Dutch is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain data pipelines and jobs, primarily using Databricks.
• Develop and optimize ETL/ELT workflows in cloud environments (AZURE and/or AWS).
• Utilize Databricks Jobs, pipelines, Unity Catalog, and Databricks Bundles to streamline data workflows.
• Collect, clean, transform, and load data to support analytics, reporting and business insights.
• Create data solutions using Python, PySpark, and Pandas for efficient processing and analysis.
• Apply strong engineering practices, including unit testing, code reviews and adherence to best practices.
• Operate in a professional data environment with data governance, CI/CD pipelines, and Git integration.
• Collaborate within Agile/Scrum and DevOps teams to deliver high-quality data solutions.
• Optimize data platforms for performance, scalability, and reliability to meet business needs.
