Job description

Join Sendcloud in Eindhoven as a Data Engineer, owning the lakehouse, building robust pipelines, empowering AI-driven decisions, and shaping shipping tech at scale with global impact.

Sendcloud powers 30,000+ online retailers, marketplaces, and fulfillment companies, helping them ship smarter and grow faster. We’re building the platform that solves shipping at scale, globally.

Our Operations data platform is the backbone that turns raw shipping signals into decisions our Analysts and Data Scientists act on every day. As our Data Engineer, you own the lakehouse and the pipelines that make that possible — and you get to shape how AI and agentic workflows plug into it safely. This is the role where the reliability of our data, and the pace at which the team can build on top of it, is genuinely in your hands.

The Role
  • As the Data Engineer, you are the architect and guardian of the Operations data platform — balancing high-quality, robust pipelines with a pragmatic, results-oriented approach that keeps the platform reliable, scalable, and cost-effective.
  • Own the lakehouse and orchestration layer end to end, so Analysts and Data Scientists can build and deploy their own applications with confidence.
  • Act as the go‑to technical expert who provides the architectural oversight and hands‑on guidance the wider data team relies on.
  • Build the infrastructure that lets AI solutions and agents interact with our data seamlessly and securely for internal operations.
What you'll do
  • Manage and optimize the lakehouse based on AWS S3, Glue, Athena, and the Iceberg table format.
  • Design and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines using Python and PySpark.
  • Take full ownership of the management, scaling, and maintenance of Apache Airflow hosted on AWS ECS.
  • Champion the adoption of Generative AI tooling within the engineering team, empowering colleagues to leverage LLM-driven coding assistants.
  • Build and support the infrastructure required for agentic workflows, ensuring LLMs have seamless and secure access to lakehouse data.
  • Proactively monitor datalake ETL jobs, maintenance jobs (backups, janitor tasks), and AWS services (Airflow, RDSs) to ensure maximum uptime.
  • Monitor AWS usage and costs, investigating anomalies to guarantee efficient resource allocation.
  • Act as the technical expert in our support channel, helping Analysts and Data Scientists resolve complex data issues or architectural questions.
  • Perform code reviews focusing on operational impact, scalability, and adherence to our core engineering principles.
What you bring to the table

Personally

  • You get genuinely excited about making a tangible difference to the business, and you bring the social skills to manage your own projects and pull the team along with you.
  • You are proactive and impact-driven: you spot the gap and fix it rather than waiting to be asked.
  • You think in systems, not tickets — you ask what problem we are really solving before you start.

Professionally

  • A Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or another quantitative field.
  • 2–3 years of hands‑on data engineering experience, preferably in an AWS environment.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL; experience with PySpark for large-scale data processing is a strong plus.
  • You have experience building and debugging complex workflows in Apache Airflow or similar orchestration software.
  • You have hands‑on experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • You bring practical experience with Infrastructure as Code, ideally Terraform.
  • You are experienced with AI coding assistants (such as Claude Code or Codex) and have the technical ability to write and use agentic skills that allow LLMs to execute tasks.
  • You have exposure to LLMOps principles, understanding how to deploy, trace, and evaluate LLM-driven applications and agentic workflows safely at scale.
  • You are fluent in both verbal and written English.
  • You are based within travel distance of the Eindhoven area.
  • Bonus points: You have cool tech hobby projects, entrepreneurial endeavors, or extra‑curricular activities on your resume!
Our Values
  • No bullshit: Big egos suck. Be open, honest and transparent. Share your mistakes openly and learn from them. Don't just talk about problems, solve them.
  • Grow & win: Be highly curious, adaptable & proactive. Embrace discomfort and change. Keep an open mindset and learn from others. You invest in our growth, so we invest in yours.
  • Have fun: Work hard, laugh harder. Not everything has to be serious. Be yourself, especially if you’re the good kind of crazy.
