Job description

About iqbi

iqbi automates the collection of utility data — electricity, gas, water, heating and solar — for real estate portfolios across Europe. We help investors, developers and property managers meet their ESG and CSRD obligations with real-time, audit-proof data. Our team combines deep utility data knowledge with technical expertise, and is growing fast, with offices in Utrecht and Berlin.

Your role as Data Analytics Engineer

Do you want to turn iqbi's energy data into the insights that help real estate owners cut emissions and avoid stranded assets? Are you the kind of person who won't ship a data model until you can prove, not just assume, that it's right? Then we are looking for you as our new Data Analytics Engineer!

Who are you?

You are analytically strong and curious by nature, but what sets you apart is how you turn that curiosity into models that hold up under scrutiny. You write SQL that stays maintainable as requirements change, not just queries that return the right rows, and you know how to explain what a number means and why it matters to people who have never opened a notebook. You care about correctness and you know how to prove a model is right rather than assume it. You feel at home in a scale up where sustainability, technology and client focus come together.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative field such as computer science, data science or engineering, or equivalent professional and academic level
  • Have 2-5 years of experience in analytics engineering, data science, or a similar data-modeling role
  • Strong command of Python and SQL for analysis and modeling
  • Write excellent SQL, and are comfortable in Python
  • Comfortable working with a cloud data warehouse such as BigQuery, Snowflake or Redshift
  • Have worked with dbt or Dataform. We use Dataform, but if you know dbt you will be productive within days. We are not filtering on the tool.
  • Able to explain a model and its assumptions to someone who has never written code, and take their feedback seriouslyAffinity with energy, utilities or sustainability reporting is a plus
  • Fluent in English, Dutch is a plus
What will you do?

You will own the transformation layer of our data platform: the part that turns raw meter readings into the numbers our customers see, act on and report with. There is no dashboard layer between your SQL and the outside world. When we tell a client that one of their buildings will breach its CRREM pathway in 2031, the number behind that claim is yours.

Data modeling, the core of the job
  • Design, build and maintain our BigQuery data models in Dataform.
  • Own the semantic layer: define what consumption, cost and energy intensity mean across the platform, and make sure every surface agrees.
  • Solve modeling problems that are genuinely hard, where aggregation, time handling and unit conversion all have to be right across a messy real world of meters, suppliers and building portfolios.
Data quality and trust
  • Build and extend our data-quality framework so problems surface before customers find them.
  • Investigate and resolve data discrepancies end to end, from the supplier connection, whether that is a hardware installation or a software readout, through to what the customer sees on the platform.
Pipelines and collaboration
  • Contribute to our Airflow ingestion pipelines, including integrations with new supplier APIs.
  • Work with the backend team on how your models are exposed to the API.
  • Work directly with our Operations and Customer Success teams, who are the ones fielding the questions your models answer.
What do we offer?
  • A role with real ownership. You will be the person who owns our data model, not a contributor to someone else's.
  • A team of four engineers where your work ships to production in days, not quarters.
  • Travel allowance
  • Hybrid working, three days per week at our office in Utrecht
  • An informal, direct working environment where your ideas and input carry weight
  • The chance to work on something that measurably contributes to decarbonizing the built environment
