A consultancy firm is seeking a full-time Consultant – Contracts and Claims based in the Netherlands. The successful candidate will provide strategic advice on contract formation and claims management for large-scale international projects. The ideal applicant has a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Quantity Surveying, with 5-10 years of experience in contract management. Qualifications

  • 5–10 years' experience in contract management, preferably in large-scale international construction projects.
  • Proven experience in procurement strategy and dispute resolution within the mining, oil & gas or construction sectors.
  • Proven procurement strategy, contract formation and dispute resolution experience in mining/oil & gas or construction.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex data and contracts.
  • Excellent written and spoken business English.
  • Willingness to travel internationally, especially to the Gulf region.

Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on optimal contract strategies for international projects.
  • Oversee contract performance and compliance across project lifecycle.
  • Lead the preparation and submission of contractual claims.
  • Strategise in various dispute resolution forums, including mediation and arbitration.
  • Participate in selection and due diligence of main contractors from a contractual perspective.

Job description

This is a full‑time role for a Consultant – Contracts and Claims. The Consultant will be responsible for providing strategic advice on contract formation, administration, and claims management throughout the project lifecycle.

Initially, the successful candidate will be based in their home country and must be eligible/flexible for travelling to Gulf countries for assignments. Following this period, there is an excellent opportunity to transition into a fixed position in the Netherlands.

What You Will Be Doing
Contract Formation and Procurement Consultancy
  • Advise clients on optimal contract strategies and documentation for large‑scale international projects (e.g., FIDIC, NEC).
  • Assist in the development, review, and execution of procurement and tender documentation.
  • Identify contractual risks during the formation stage and implement preventative measures to safeguard client interests.
  • Provide expert support during contract negotiations to finalise favourable commercial and legal terms.
  • Participate in the selection and due diligence of main contractors and subcontractors from a contractual perspective.
Contract & Claims Management
  • Oversee contract performance, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions across the project lifecycle.
  • Lead the preparation, submission, and defence of complex contractual claims, including time and cost extensions.
  • Strategise and support in various dispute resolution forums, including mediation, adjudication, and arbitration.
  • Prepare detailed commercial reports and contract summaries to inform management and client decision‑making.
  • Manage project variations, change orders, and instructions to ensure proper entitlement and accurate valuation.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a construction‑related discipline (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Experience: 5–10 years’ experience in contract management, preferably within large‑scale international construction projects, alliance and EPCm contracts.
  • Expertise: Proven experience in procurement strategy, contract formation and management, and dispute resolution within the mining, oil & gas or construction sectors.
  • Analytical Skills: Exceptional attention to detail and ability to interpret complex data sets and contractual language.
  • Communication: Excellent and clear verbal and written communication skills, with strong proficiency in business English.
  • Flexibility: Ability and willingness to travel internationally as the assignment requires, particularly to the Gulf region.
