QBE European Operations plc. in Amsterdam is seeking an Underwriter – Construction to join our expanding Dutch portfolio. This role combines underwriting risk assessment with relationship management to drive profitable growth in a hybrid working environment.

You will underwrite Construction risks, collaborate with brokers and clients, and contribute to strategy and best practice while staying compliant with regulations and company guidelines.

Qualifications

• Proven experience underwriting Construction risks with strong CAR/EAR knowledge.
• Knowledge of Dutch construction insurance market and regulatory context.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and with brokers.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite Construction insurance risks in line with guidelines and delegated authority.
• Develop and maintain relationships with brokers, clients and internal stakeholders.
• Contribute to strategy, knowledge and best practice within the department.
• Promote the department and company to maximise brand leverage.
• Comply with legal and regulatory requirements to fulfill obligations.
• Adhere to underwriting standards to minimise risk and maximise efficiency.
• Stay aware of market dynamics and cycle conditions.

The Opportunity

Four years ago, we opened a new office in the Netherlands, and since then, we have experienced significant growth. To support our continued expansion, we are looking for a Construction Underwriter to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a successful organisation with ambitious growth plans, while embracing the entrepreneurial spirit of a dynamic and evolving market presence.

Your new role

• Underwrite Construction insurance risks in line with the agreed Business Plan, underwriting guidelines and delegated authority levels to achieve profitable growth and business objectives.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, business partners and internal stakeholders across the Dutch market to drive new business opportunities and portfolio development
• Participate fully and use your expertise to shape and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice
• Positively promote the department, division and company as a whole, in order to maximise brand leverage
• Comply with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met
• Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and good practice to minimise risk and maximise efficiency
• Actively keep abreast of market dynamics and demonstrate market cycle awareness to be able to operate effectively and appropriately

About You

• Proven experience underwriting Construction risks, with a strong understanding of CAR, EAR and related engineering insurance products.
• Good knowledge of the Dutch construction insurance market, including key trends, opportunities, regulatory considerations and emerging risks.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment
• Capability to analyse and interpret data
• Intermediate level understanding of relevant software, including Excel and other departmental software packages.
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Fluent in Dutch and English
