Job summary

Harrington Starr representing an Amsterdam-based client seeks a Gas Spot Trader to handle Day-Ahead and Within-Day gas markets with exposure management and rapid decision-making. You will monitor European hubs, evaluate price relationships and apply fundamentals to identify short-term opportunities.

The role requires 2-5 years in European gas trading, familiarity with a major hub, and some Python experience or a willingness to learn.

Amsterdam-based Gas Spot Trader role. My client is growing its European gas trading capability, combining short-term trading, fundamental market analysis and the operational knowledge needed to participate in European physical gas markets. With storage levels below average and global LNG supply under pressure, this is a genuinely volatile, fast-moving market right now - and a chance to join a young, growing desk and help shape how it trades.

Responsibilities

• Trading Day-Ahead, Within-Day and short-dated gas markets, managing your own positions and exposures throughout the day.
• Monitoring European gas hubs, flows and price relationships, and use fundamentals - weather, demand, storage, LNG, outages, pipeline developments - to identify short-term directional and relative-value opportunities.
• Beyond trading itself, you'll support nominations, balancing, capacity and other physical-market processes.
• Work alongside quantitative researchers to develop more systematic, semi-automated strategies as the desk grows
• 2-5 years’ European gas trading experience, backed by real commercial decisions - not just analysis
• Direct exposure to Day-Ahead, Within-Day or prompt markets.
• Familiarity with at least one major European hub.
• A solid feel for physical gas flows, and comfort weighing up position, liquidity and event risk fast.
• Some Python experience, or curiosity to learn it
