Job summary

ALTEN is seeking a Process Engineer to join its Enschede team, focusing on integrated photonics, thin-film technology, and PIC development. The role is hands-on in a cleanroom, working on low-loss SiN waveguides and piezoelectric thin films, with opportunities to industrialize new processes.

You will collaborate with R&D and production, require MSc in a related field, and a minimum of four years in cleanroom technology development.

Qualifications

• MSc in Applied Physics, Nanoscience, Materials Science, or related semiconductor fields.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in cleanroom-based technology development.
• Strong hands-on experience with thin-film deposition, photolithography/patterning, process development, and cleanroom manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize thin-film deposition processes for piezoelectric materials (PZT, AlN, LiNbO3, BaTiO3).
• Integrate piezoelectric thin-film stacks onto SiN waveguides.
• Characterize device performance and functional properties.
• Support industrial customers in implementing photonics technologies in products.

Process Engineer – Integrated Photonics & Thin-Film Technology – Enschede – ALTEN

The Position

As part of our expanding team, we are looking for a talented Process Engineer to join us in Enschede and contribute to impactful projects. You will play a key role in the development and industrialization of next-generation photonic integrated circuits (PICs), focusing on low-loss silicon nitride (SiN) waveguides and photonic devices for quantum and microwave photonics applications. This is a highly hands-on engineering role within a cleanroom environment.

As a Process Engineer, your main tasks will include:

• Developing and optimizing thin-film deposition processes for piezoelectric materials such as PZT, Aluminum Nitride (AlN), Lithium Niobate, and Barium Titanate
• Integrating piezoelectric thin-film stacks onto SiN waveguides
• Characterizing device performance and functional properties
• Supporting industrial customers in implementing developed photonics technologies in their products

Your Profile

• MSc in Applied Physics, Nanoscience, Materials Science, or Semiconductor-related disciplines
• Minimum 4 years of experience in cleanroom-based technology development
• Strong hands‑on experience with thin-film deposition, photolithography/patterning, process development, and cleanroom manufacturing processes
