Job description

At ibis Styles Rotterdam Ahoy, we are looking for a Chief Engineer who combines technical expertise, hospitality and leadership. You will have overall responsibility for the entire Technical Department and ensure that the hotel, guest rooms, public areas and technical installations remain safe, reliable and well maintained. At the same time, you will be actively involved in the day-to-day operation: troubleshooting technical issues, carrying out repairs and working hands-on wherever needed.

This is not a role where you only plan and manage from a distance. We are looking for someone who keeps an overview, sets priorities and takes ownership, but who is equally comfortable replacing a light, repairing a lock, carrying out painting work or fixing a minor leak or technical issue when the operation requires it.

What will you do?
  • Lead and independently organize the daily activities of the Technical Department.
  • Personally, carry out and coordinate daily repairs and maintenance in guest rooms, public areas and back-of-house areas, including lighting, sanitary facilities, locks, painting, minor leaks and technical faults.
  • Prioritize and follow up on technical issues, with a focus on speed, quality and minimal impact on our guests and hotel operations.
  • Develop, plan, execute and monitor preventive maintenance and the long-term maintenance plan (MJOP).
  • Monitor the technical condition and proper operation of building-related installations, equipment and facilities.
  • Manage and monitor the technical budget, maintenance costs, materials, inventory and capital investment proposals.
  • Request and assess quotations and coordinate external suppliers, maintenance partners and specialist contractors.
  • Manage and follow up on maintenance contracts, periodic inspections, statutory checks and certifications.
  • Prepare and supervise technical projects, replacements, refurbishments and renovations.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and safety requirements, including fire safety, occupational health and safety, Legionella prevention and technical inspections.
  • Maintain technical administration, maintenance records, reports and relevant energy and sustainability information.
  • Work closely with Front Office, Housekeeping, F&B and other departments to resolve technical issues quickly and with a guest-focused approach.
  • Ensure appropriate technical on-call coverage and, where applicable, participate in the emergency/on-call duty roster.
Who are we looking for?
  • You have completed a relevant technical qualification at MBO level or equivalent, preferably in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, installation technology or a comparable field.
  • You have relevant all-round technical experience; experience in a hotel, leisure, retail or another service-oriented environment is a strong advantage.
  • You have leadership or coordination experience and can independently set priorities and organize work.
  • You are genuinely hands‑on and consider it natural to personally assist with repairs, maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • You have knowledge of building-related installations and understand the importance of preventive maintenance, safety and regulatory compliance.
  • You are practical, solution-oriented, resilient under pressure and take ownership.
  • You communicate effectively with colleagues, guests, suppliers and external partners.
  • You have a sufficient command of Dutch and English to work and communicate safely and effectively.
  • You are flexible and available when hotel operations or a technical emergency require it.
What do we offer?
  • An independent and responsible full-time position of 38 hours per week in a dynamic hotel next to Rotterdam Ahoy.
  • A role with plenty of room for initiative and a direct impact on the quality, safety and continuity of the hotel.
  • A monthly gross salary of between €3.461 and €4.478 in accordance with scale 9 of the Collective Labour Agreement for the Dutch hospitality and catering industry
  • 25 days of annual leave based on full-time employment and pension contributions through
  • An additional paid day off during the month of your birthday
  • Pension contributions with the Horeca & Catering pension fund
  • Travel allowance based on the actual number of kilometres.
  • Attractive employee discounts within Accor
  • Opportunities to further develop yourself within an international hospitality environment.
