Business Development Manager - Payments (m/f/d)
As a Business Development Manager - Payments, you'll join one of our clients through Meyer Talent Acquisition headquartered in Amsterdam. Operating across Europe, our client is creating trusted on-chain payment infrastructure for Europe's digital economy. The mission is to provide a secure, transparent, and institutionally trusted EMT that serves as a foundational settlement asset for Europe's digital economy. By bridging traditional financial infrastructure and blockchain technology, our client enables regulated, scalable, and future-proof payment and settlement use cases for banks, financial institutions, and capital markets.
About the Role
As Business Development Manager - Payments, you will drive commercial partnerships with the payments ecosystem that will move, accept, and settle our client's euro stablecoin at scale. The stablecoin reaches customers through licensed, regulated distributors rather than directly. This role is responsible for identifying, structuring, and closing the commercial relationships that turn that model into real transaction volume. You will sit at the intersection of two worlds: the traditional payments industry (card networks, payment service providers, acquirers, banks) and the blockchain/digital asset ecosystem (exchanges, custodians, on-chain infrastructure). Success in this role means being credible in both rooms - able to explain stablecoin settlement to a payments executive and explain card scheme economics to a blockchain native.
Your Responsibilities
- Identify and prioritize partnership opportunities across payment infrastructure providers, card networks and schemes, payment service providers, acquirers, and fintechs where our client's EUR stablecoin integration creates mutual commercial value.
- Build and manage a partner pipeline, from initial outreach and use case scoping through commercial negotiation to signed agreement and integration handoff.
- Structure commercial and partnership terms (revenue models, volume commitments, integration scope) in collaboration with Legal, Product, and Treasury.
- Translate payment industry needs into product requirements, working closely with the product and engineering teams to ensure our client's stablecoin rails fit real-world payment flows (cross-border settlement, merchant acquiring, B2B payments, treasury use cases).
- Contribute to the Strategy team's work on integrating our client's broader on-chain product suite with payments infrastructure, identifying pathways to bring these innovative solutions to mass market reach through existing payment rails and distribution partners.
- Represent our client at industry events, payment conferences, and partner meetings, building the company's credibility and network across both traditional payments and digital asset communities.
- Maintain a working understanding of the competitive and regulatory landscape for stablecoin payments (MiCA, card scheme rules, SEPA, cross-border payment regulation) to inform partnership strategy.
- Collaborate with the Commercial Workstream and consortium member banks to align partner outreach with the broader ecosystem strategy of our client.
- Report on pipeline, partnership progress, and market intelligence to internal stakeholders on a regular cadence.
Required Qualifications
What You Bring:
- 8+ years of experience in business development, partnerships, or commercial roles within payments, fintech, or financial infrastructure.
- Solid working knowledge of the traditional payments landscape - card networks and schemes, acquiring/issuing, payment service providers, or correspondent banking.
- Direct exposure to blockchain, digital assets, or stablecoins, whether through a previous role, project, or hands-on commercial experience - you understand on-chain settlement, custody, and the practical differences from traditional rails.
- Track record of sourcing, negotiating, and closing commercial partnerships, ideally B2B or B2B2C.
- Comfortable working with both startups/fintechs and large regulated institutions, and able to adapt commercial approach accordingly.
- Strong communication skills in English; additional European languages are a plus.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Computer Science, or a related field.
Core Competencies
- Commercial fluency across two industries - you can speak the language of payments executives and blockchain builders without losing either audience.
- Partnership structuring - you know how to turn a promising conversation into commercial terms that work for both sides.
- Pipeline ownership - you manage your own deal flow end to end and keep momentum without heavy oversight.
- Ecosystem thinking - you understand how our client's wholesale model depends on partners, and you prioritize relationships that compound rather than one-off wins.
- Entrepreneurial execution - you operate effectively in a fast-moving, pre-launch environment with evolving priorities.
