Job summary

MSD Animal Health in Boxmeer is seeking an EHS Biosafety Officer to oversee biosafety programs for biological agents and GMO activities across R&D and manufacturing. The role drives development, implementation and continuous improvement of biosafety practices to protect employees, products and the environment.

The candidate will lead risk assessments, containment strategies, and regulatory compliance, enabling safe vaccine research and production. English proficiency is required, Dutch preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in microbiology or biotechnology or similar.
• Experience with managing risks associated with biological agents (including GMOs).
• Understanding of biocontainment systems and concepts.
• Ability to analyze data, interpret results and advise on corrective actions.
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, urgency across roles.
• Excellent English, Dutch is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Subject Matter Expert for the Biosafety program at the site and advise on control strategies.
• Identify and assess biosafety risks, develop CAPAs, monitor progress.
• Collaborate with EHS, Engineering, Operations, and R&D for improvements.
• Maintain technical competencies and regulatory knowledge for biosafety.
• Provide biosafety support for biocontainment facility design and verification.
• Conduct biosafety program assessments, area inspections and audits.
• Develop and contribute to biosafety training programs.
