Job summary

Tilburg University invites a candidate for an Assistant Professor role in Law, Security and Artificial Intelligence. The position blends research with teaching, enabling collaboration on AI and security projects and opportunities to develop new lines of inquiry.

You will engage with TILT and Law School staff to advance fundamental rights and regulatory scholarship. The role requires a PhD in law with a focus on human rights and surveillance, strong publication records, and readiness to obtain

Qualifications

• PhD in law with specialization in human rights, surveillance or security.
• Demonstrable research in new technologies including AI.
• Outstanding research record and publications.
• Sound teaching skills; experience in higher education.
• UTQ or willingness to acquire UTQ within 2 years.
• Strong network of academics and professionals in security/law enforcement.
• Drive for societal and policy impact; experience in private/public sector is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research and teaching in Law, Security and AI.
• Collaborate on existing research projects and develop new ones.
• Contribute to commissioned projects; write tenders and research proposals.
• Supervise Bachelor’s/Master’s theses and assist PhD supervision.
• Lead or contribute to professional education in Dutch and English.
• Balance teaching (≈40–50%) with research and some administration.
