Job summary

Retina Development is seeking an independent software engineer who quickly masters new technology and thinks in business processes with a strong eye for quality.

You will translate business ideas into technical designs, design architectures and data models, and develop software using AI tools while quickly mastering new platforms. You will collaborate across domains, ensure secure and scalable deployments, and occasionally work on location in the Netherlands or abroad.

Qualifications

• Proven development experience with databases and data modelling.
• Oversee requirements, architecture, code, testing and deployment.
• Experience with LLMs and AI development tools, including prompting and guardrails.
• Strong API integration, Git/GitHub, and cloud/development principles.
• Ability to assess new models and frameworks for production.
• Proficiency in Dutch and English.

Responsibilities

• Translate business processes into clear functional and technical designs.

• Set up project structures, documentation, coding standards and guardrails for AI collaboration.

Job description

At Retina Development, you build business software and technical applications, from process analysis all the way to production. In our family business, you work alongside colleagues from software, R&D, engineering and service. You make intensive use of AI and get plenty of freedom, with your own responsibility for architecture and quality.

The salary is €4,500 to €6,500 gross per month based on 40 hours, depending on knowledge and experience.

What will you do?

You help us further professionalise our development environment. You choose the right tools for each challenge and build a reliable development process. You will:

• Translate business processes and ideas into clear functional and technical designs.
• Design software architecture and data models and ensure reliable deployments.
• Develop software using AI tools such as Claude Code and OpenAI Codex, and quickly master new tools.
• Set up project structures, documentation, coding standards and guardrails for collaboration between people and AI.
• Work with GitHub, version control, automated testing and CI/CD for reproducible results.
• Integrate software with external systems, cloud and ERP platforms via APIs.
• Review generated code and safeguard security, performance, scalability, maintainability and user experience.

Occasionally, you will work on location in the Netherlands or abroad, for example on a maritime project.

We develop business software for service, projects and technical processes, as well as applications for ships and hotels. We combine software, integrations and AI to organise processes more intelligently. Our ambition is to develop successful solutions into modular products for other organisations and sectors.

Who are you?

You are an independent software engineer who quickly masters new technology. You think from the business process and keep a close eye on quality. In addition, you:

• Have proven development experience and a strong foundation in databases and data modelling.
• Oversee the whole picture of requirements, architecture, code, testing and deployment.
• Have experience with LLMs and AI development tools, including prompting, context engineering and guardrails.
• Work well with APIs, integrations, Git/GitHub and modern cloud and development principles.
• Critically assess which new models, tools and frameworks are suitable for production.
• Speak and write Dutch and English well.

A technical background, for example in computer science, electrical engineering or mechanical engineering, is a strong plus.
