Job summary

Harnham is seeking a high-impact leader to shape the AI and ML direction for a fast-growing business in the Netherlands. You will lead technical strategy and people leadership while modernising legacy ML systems and influencing product roadmaps across recommendations, search, and behavioural modelling.

You will work closely with Product to prioritise high-impact use cases and shape how data science delivers value.

Qualifications

• Proven track record delivering ML/AI models to production.
• Experience with recommender systems, search, fraud or marketplace problems.
• Ability to set technical direction and influence stakeholders, not just execute.
• Experience leading or mentoring data scientists and elevating team capability.
• Production ML experience in Python, ideally using Databricks.

Responsibilities

• Lead the AI and ML strategy, with responsibility for both technical direction and people leadership.
• Modernise legacy machine learning systems, particularly in recommendations, search and behavioural modelling.
• Work closely with Product to shape the roadmap, challenge build vs buy decisions, and prioritise work based on impact.
• Manage and develop a team of data scientists and remain as hands on as you choose.
• Manage a team of 7 data scientists and influence use-case prioritisation.

Job description

This is a high impact leadership role for someone who wants to shape the AI and ML direction of a growing business. You will have the opportunity to modernise existing machine learning approaches, influence product strategy, and lead a team through the next phase of its evolution.

The Company

They are a fast moving organisation of around 250 people with a flat structure and high visibility across the business. Despite their size, they have significant reach and the ability to move quickly on new ideas. Data and AI sit close to product and leadership, giving this role genuine influence and ownership.

The Role

• You will lead the AI and ML strategy, with responsibility for both technical direction and people leadership.
• You will modernise legacy machine learning systems, particularly in areas such as recommendations, search and behavioural modelling.
• You will work closely with Product to shape the roadmap, challenge build versus buy decisions, and prioritise work based on impact.
• You will manage and develop a team of data scientists and remain as hands on as you choose.
• Manage a team of 7 data scientists
• In this role you will also have a big influence in which use cases should be prioritised

Your Skills and Experience

• Strong commercial experience delivering ML and AI models into production environments.
• Background in recommendation systems, search, fraud or similar marketplace style problems.
• Ability to set technical direction and influence stakeholders, not just execute.
• Experience leading or mentoring data scientists and elevating team capability
• Production ML experience in Python, ideally using Databricks.

• A base salary of €80,000 to €140,000 total package
