Job summary

Village Farms International is seeking an Accounting Assistant to support the finance team and help maintain accurate financial records. You will work closely with the Controller on a broad spectrum of accounting tasks, including VAT filings, intercompany reconciliations, and month-end close.

The role emphasizes attention to detail, collaboration across departments, and adherence to US GAAP and local GAAP. Prior experience in manufacturing or cannabis is a plus, with potential exposure to ERP

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
• 4+ years' experience in accounting and/or finance roles.
• Experience in manufacturing, consumer packaged goods and cannabis is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Day-to-day accounting activities, like updating banks, accounts receivable and accounts payable.
• Perform monthly intercompany reconciliations.
• Purchase invoice checking and reconciliations with the purchase orders.
• Preparation and filing VAT Returns.
• Preparation and filing of local legal returns like CBS.
• Proposal and draft preparation batch payment files.
• Monitor internal control procedures.
• Assist in preparing and analyse financial statements in compliance with US GAAP and local GAAP.
• Process period-end journal entries and assist in the preparation and review of month-end working papers.
• Collaborate with the Controller and Director of Finance in presenting financial information to senior management.
• Work with external auditors during the annual financial and SOX audits.
• Participate in special projects, such as process improvements, data management, invoice recognition and translation software and reporting automation.
• Communicate effectively with team members, other departments, parent and sister companies, and external stakeholders.
