Job summary

SEMBESTFORM MANUFACTURING & TECHNOLOGY SDN BHD seeks skilled welders to perform TIG/MIG welding according to engineering drawings and WS. The role includes welding SS304 and SPCC/mild steel sheet metal, reading drawings, and ensuring weld quality with minimal distortion.

Candidates should be able to read welding symbols, set up machines, and follow safety and 5S practices on the shop floor. Experience with 1.5 mm and 2.3 mm sheet-metal welding is an advantage.

Qualifications

• Experience in TIG welding preferred.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and welding symbols.
• Familiarity with SS304 and SPCC/mild steel sheet metal welding.

Job description

1. Perform TIG/MIG/Argon welding according to engineering drawings, specifications and work instructions.

2. Weld stainless steel, mild steel/SPCC and other sheet-metal components as required.

3. Perform welding on thin sheet metal, including approximately 1.0–3.0 mm material where applicable.

4. Read and understand engineering drawings, welding symbols, dimensions and tolerances.

5. Set up welding machines and select appropriate current, gas flow, filler material and welding parameters.

6. Perform tack welding, continuous welding, spot welding and seam welding according to drawing requirements.

7. Ensure proper fit-up, alignment, squareness and dimensional control before and during welding.

8. Control heat input and welding distortion, particularly for thin sheet-metal parts.

9. Inspect completed welds for porosity, cracks, undercut, burn-through, incomplete fusion, excessive weld and other defects.

10. Perform basic grinding, deburring, weld dressing and finishing when required.

11. Carry out stainless‑steel weld cleaning/pickling where specified and trained to do so.

12. Follow approved WPS/welding procedures and specified welding parameters where applicable.

13. Work with Quality personnel during weld inspection, first article inspection and corrective actions.

14. Perform rework or repair welding only according to approved instructions.

15. Maintain welding machines, torches, regulators, fixtures and other equipment in good condition.

16. Ensure proper identification and handling of welding consumables and filler materials.

17. Follow all PPE, welding safety, gas‑cylinder handling and workplace safety requirements.

18. Maintain good 5S and housekeeping around the welding workstation.

19. Report welding defects, drawing discrepancies or process problems to the supervisor before proceeding.

20. Support other sheet-metal fabrication and assembly activities when required.

Preferred skills: Experience in TIG welding is strongly preferred .Experience welding SS304 and SPCC/mild steel sheet metal. Able to produce clean cosmetic welds with minimum distortion. Able to read mechanical drawings and basic welding symbols. Experience with 1.5 mm and 2.3 mm sheet‑metal welding is an advantage. Welding qualification/certificate is an advantage. Knowledge of AWS welding requirements/WPS is an advantage
