Job summary

AmBank Group is seeking a seasoned Oracle DBA SME to architect, engineer, and sustain high-availability Oracle environments for mission-critical systems. You will own clustered Oracle RAC, Data Guard implementations, and complex upgrades with minimal downtime.

The role requires hands-on leadership for lifecycle initiatives, problem solving, and cross-team collaboration across Unix/Linux environments, with automation of routine tasks via scripting tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related field.
• Professional Certifications (OCP, OCM) preferred.
• 8–12 years of Oracle DB admin experience; 5+ years with RAC/Data Guard.
• Proven experience in large-scale production environments, upgrades, and migrations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; effective communication.

Responsibilities

• Implement and manage Oracle RAC architectures with interconnect tuning and cluster stability.
• Architect Data Guard solutions, failover/switchover strategies and DR drills.
• Define high availability and disaster recovery aligned with RTO/RPO.
• Lead complex database upgrades (e.g., 11g/12c to 19c/21c/23c) with minimal downtime.
• Execute cross-platform migrations and DB consolidation.
• Serve as L3/L4 escalation point for critical incidents and RCA.
• Support cross-platform databases (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
• Automate routine DBA tasks with scripting (Shell, Python, Ansible).
• Collaborate with infra and app teams on deployments.

Job description

To serve as the technical authority for Oracle database platforms, responsible for architecting, engineering and sustaining highly available, high performance, and secure Oracle environments support mission-critical systems. The role requires deep ownership of clustered and distributed database architectures, ensuring zero/near zero downtime operations through advanced configuration of Oracle RAC, Data Guard and replication technologies

The SME is expected to operate autonomously in complex production environments, lead major database lifecycle initiatives (upgrades, migration, re-platforming), and demonstrate good problem-solving skills & knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

• 1. Implement and manage Oracle RAC (multi-node) architecture, including interconnect tuning, cache optimization and cluster stability and Data Guard architecture.
• 2. Architect Data Guard solutions (physical, logical, active DG), including failover/switchover strategies and DR drills
• 3. Define high availability and disaster recovery strategies aligned with RTO/RPO requirements.
• 4. Lead complex database upgrades (e.g 11g/12c -> 19c/21c/23c) with minimal downtime using tools like, RMAN,
• 5. Execute cross platform migrations (Unix to Linux, to on-prem cloud) & perform database consolidation and re-platforming initiatives
• 6. Act as L3/L4 escalation point for critical incidents and perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis (RCA) for production incidents
• 8. Ensure high availability and disaster recover readiness
• 9. Support cross-platform databases (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL) when required
• 10. Automate routine DBA tasks using scripting (Shell, Python, Ansible)
• 11. Work closely with infrastructure and application teams on critical deployments.
• Thorough working knowledge of the different versions of Oracle on UNIX or Linux operating systems.
• 13. Experience with deploying database security patches and remediation of database vulnerabilities.
• 14. Experience with performing backup and recovery with database utilities and backup tools (NetBackup)
• 15. Provide Technical consultation services to IT teams with regards to design, architecture and operations of new and existing database systems.
• 16. Manage the formulation and implementation strategies/plans of the database system while ensuring confidentiality, integrity & availability of the systems/Infrastructure.
• 17. Evaluate, recommend, research and development of database software technology, standards, upgrade path and technology improvement plans.

Qualifications & Skills (including mandated licenses where applicable)

• 1. A recognized bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems Engineering or related subjects Degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or related qualifications
• 2. Professional Certifications (OCP,OCM)
• 3. Minimum 8 to 12 in Oracle database administration and minimum 5+ years hands on with RAC and Data Guard
• 4. Proven experience in large scale production environments, database upgrades and migrations
• 5. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• 6. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skill with ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels within the bank.
• 7. High ethical standards and integrity, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
• 8. Experience supporting multi-database environments (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL & etc)

The following qualifications are considered as assets:

• Knowledge of cloud computing technologies e.g HCS
• Experienced with open-source databases specifically MongoDB, MariaDB, CockroachDB, Cassandra
