Job summary

AmBank Group in Malaysia invites a senior technical SME to lead enterprise Sybase ASE and appliance-based database platforms, supporting treasury, trading, risk management, and analytics with strict regulatory requirements. You will optimize stability, scalability and availability across PostgreSQL BDR, Netezza/IBM NPS, SQL Server, MongoDB and MySQL, including Huawei Cloud Stack RDS.

Qualifications

• Senior technical SME for enterprise database platforms including Sybase ASE and appliance-based systems.
• Experience with PostgreSQL BDR in distributed multi-master clusters across datacenters.
• Hands-on administration of Netezza/IBM NPS and cloud-hosted RDS on Huawei Cloud Stack.

Responsibilities

• Serve as senior SME for enterprise Sybase ASE and appliance DB platforms.
• Ensure stability, availability, scalability, integrity and performance of database ecosystems.
• Provide deep technical support for PostgreSQL, Netezza/IBM NPS, SQL Server, MongoDB and MySQL.
• Manage PostgreSQL BDR in distributed multi-master clusters and ensure replication consistency.
• Administer and support RDS hosted on Huawei Cloud Stack private cloud.
• Provision, configure, deploy, monitor, and optimize DB instances on HCS.
• Optimize performance by managing compute, memory and workload balance.
• Administer and optimize appliance maintenance, firmware upgrades, and platform optimizations.
• Act as L3/L4 escalation and conduct RCA for production incidents.
• Plan for high availability and disaster recovery readiness.
• Support cross-platform DBs as required.
• Automate routine DBA tasks using Shell, Python, Ansible.
• Collaborate with infra and app teams on critical deployments.
• Provide patching and remediation for database vulnerabilities; backup/recovery using NetBackup.
• Evaluate, recommend and upgrade database technologies and standards.
• Minimum 8 to 12 years in Sybase ASE/SQL Server and 5+ years with Netezza/IBM NPS/PostgreSQL BDR.

Job description

• To serve as the senior technical subject matter expert for enterprise Sybase ASE and appliance-based database platforms supporting mission critical treasury, trading, risk management and enterprise analytical systems within highly regulated financial services.
• The role is responsible for ensuring stability, availability, scalability, integrity and performance optimization of complex database ecosystem support high value financial transactions, real time processing and large-scale analytical workloads, and business critical reporting environments
• The SME will provide deep technical support in managing and optimizing Sybase ASE databases, Netezza / IBM NPS appliance-based systems plus supporting SQL Server, PostgreSQL and enterprise data platforms where required. The role also requires hands-on expertise in managing and supporting PostgreSQL Bidirectional Replication (BDR) environments operating in distributed multi-master cluster architectures across datacenters. The SME is responsible for ensuring continuous database availability, replication consistency, conflict management, and transactional integrity across active-active database environments supporting mission critical applications.The role additionally requires strong technical expertise in managing and supporting Managed Relational Database Services (RDS) operating on Huawei’s Cloud Stack (HCS) private cloud infrastructure. The SME is responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, security and operational stability of cloud hosted database services supporting enterprise and mission critical workloads within private cloud environments.
• Administer, maintain and optimize PostgreSQL BDR environments operating in distributed multi master cluster architectures across separated datacenters.
• Configure and maintain multi master replication topology, replication groups and node membership, conflict resolution policies, cluster failover and recovery mechanism
• Administer and support enterprise grade RDS hosted on HCS private cloud infrastructure.
• Perform provisioning, configuration, deployment, monitoring, optimization, and lifecycle management of database instances hosted on HCS platforms.
• Optimize database performance within cloud environments through effective management of compute resources, memory utilizations and database workload balancing
• Administer and optimize Netezza / IBM NPS appliance-based database platforms supporting enterprise analytics and reporting workloads
• Troubleshoot complex appliance related issues including data skew, query bottlenecks, resource contention, disk utilization imbalance and performance degradation.
• Collaborate with data warehouse and analytics teams to improve query efficiency and reporting performance.Plan and execute appliance maintenance, firmware upgrades, and
• platform optimizations initiatives
• Act as L3/L4 escalation point for critical incidents and perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis (RCA) for production incidents
• Ensure high availability and disaster recover readiness
• Support cross-platform databases (SQL Server, MongoDB, MySQL) when required
• Automate routine DBA tasks using scripting (Shell, Python, Ansible)
• Work closely with infrastructure and application teams on critical deployments.
• Experience with deploying database security patches and remediation of database vulnerabilities. 18. Experience with performing backup and recovery with database utilities and backup tools (NetBackup)
• Provide Technical consultation services to IT teams with regards to design, architecture and operations of new and existing database systems.
• Manage the formulation and implementation strategies/plans of the database system while ensuring confidentiality, integrity & availability of the systems/Infrastructure.
• Evaluate, recommend, research and development of database software technology, standards, upgrade path and technology improvement plans.
• Minimum 8 to 12 years in Sybase ASE, SQL Server database administration and minimum 5+ years hands on with Netezza, IBM NPS and PostgreSQL BDR
• Experience supporting multi-database environments (RDS, MySQL, DB2 & etc)
