Job summary

Hong Leong Bank Berhad is seeking a Principal System Administrator (Unix Team Lead) in Malaysia to oversee UNIX/Linux server administration, drive performance and integrity, and guide the Unix team. You will mentor staff, manage workloads, and act as the primary escalation point for critical incidents.

The role requires 5–8 years of hands-on system/ storage experience, strong knowledge of AIX, Solaris, Red Hat, Linux, and SUSE, plus LDAP and ITIL familiarity.

Qualifications

• Recognized degree in Computer Science, IT or equivalent.
• Minimum 5–8 years hands-on System and Storage Administration experience, at least 2 years in a team lead role.
• Advanced knowledge in AIX, Solaris, Redhat, Linux, and SUSE Linux administration, including capacity planning and performance tuning.
• Knowledge of LDAP and ITIL standards.
• Certification in System Administration (e.g., RHCE) is preferred; ITIL certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and supervise the Unix/Linux system administration team.

• Perform troubleshooting to diagnose and fix system problems.
• Develop backup and recovery strategy for all systems.
• Develop capacity plans for all systems.

Job description

The Principal System Administrator (Unix Team Lead) is responsible for all the system administration of UNIX and LINUX servers, the integrity and performance of all the systems, and leading the technical activities for design and implementation of technical solutions for systems. Additionally, the role involves guiding, mentoring, and managing the Unix System Administration team.

Responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and supervise the Unix/Linux system administration team
• Manage workload distribution, task delegation, and monitor team performance to ensure operational KPIs and SLAs are met
• Act as the primary escalation point for complex system issues and critical incidents
• Conduct regular team meetings, performance reviews, and identify training needs for team members
• Install and configure operating system for new UNIX and LINUX, reinstall and reconfigure for existing UNIX and LINUX servers when the operating system is compromised
• Setup and maintain LDAP
• Administer all existing systems as needed to ensure secure, reliable and stable operation of the systems
• Perform troubleshooting services to isolate, diagnose and fix problems related to system
• Develop backup and recovery strategy for all systems
• Develop capacity plans for all systems

Skills and Experience We Are Looking For:

• Recognized Degree in Computer Science, IT or equivalent
• At least 5-8 years of hands‑on experience in System and Storage Administration, with a minimum of 2 years in a team lead or supervisory capacity
• Advanced knowledge in AIX, Solaris, Redhat, Linux, LinuxSuse system administration including capacity planning and performance tuning
• Knowledge in LDAP
• Knowledge in industry and professional standards such as ITIL
• Excellent writing, problem-solving skills, and leadership capabilities
• Certification in System Administration preferred (e.g., RHCE)
• ITIL certification is an added advantage
