Job summary

Gradiant, a global water technology company, is seeking a Mechanical Technician to diagnose faults, install and repair mechanical systems, and ensure safety and quality across projects in Malaysia. The role involves working with pumps, valves, piping, and rotating equipment in diverse environments.

Candidate should hold a Diploma or higher in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering, with advantageous welding/hydraulic/pneumatic certifications.

Qualifications

• Diploma or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related technical field from a recognized Malaysian institution.
• Relevant technical certifications (e.g., welding, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, rotating equipment maintenance, lifting supervisor) are advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and rectify mechanical faults in pumps, valves, piping, rotating equipment, filtration systems, tanks, and material handling systems.
• Perform installation, modification, repair, alignment, testing, and commissioning of mechanical equipment and piping per client specs and project needs.
• Ensure all work adheres to DOSH requirements, safety standards, and company procedures (LOTO, confined space, hot work, etc.).
• Conduct thorough testing and verification of completed mechanical work for functionality and compliance.
• Manage mechanical tools, lifting equipment, and instruments, ensuring good condition.

Education

Diploma or higher in Mechanical Engineering / Mechatronics Engineering

Key Responsibilities:

1. Mechanical Troubleshooting & Diagnostics:
   • Diagnose and rectify complex mechanical faults in various equipment, including pumps, valves, piping systems, rotating equipment (e.g., blowers, gearboxes, agitators), filtration systems, tanks, and material handling systems.
   • Utilize mechanical test equipment, alignment tools, schematic diagrams, and technical manuals for effective fault isolation and resolution (e.g., vibration analysis, bearing checks, pressure testing).
2. Execution of Mechanical Services:
   • Perform installation, modification, repair, overhaul, alignment, testing, and commissioning of mechanical equipment and piping as per client requests and project specifications for non-contractual jobs.
   • Ensure all mechanical installations and repairs adhere to engineering standards, client requirements, and established procedures (e.g., proper torque, alignment, leak testing).
3. Safety & Regulatory Compliance:
   • Ensure all mechanical work is conducted in strict adherence to Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) requirements, relevant industry safety standards, and company-specific safety procedures (e.g., Lock-Out/Tag-Out - LOTO, confined space entry, working at heights, hot work, lifting operations, pressure safety).
4. Quality Control & Workmanship:
   • Conduct thorough testing and verification of completed mechanical work to confirm functionality, reliability, and compliance with standards.
5. Resource & Equipment Management:
   • Manage and maintain mechanical tools, lifting equipment, and specialized instruments (e.g., alignment tools, hydraulic presses), ensuring they are in good working condition.

Qualifications:

• Diploma or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field from a recognized Malaysian institution.
• Relevant technical certifications (e.g., specific welding qualifications, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, rotating equipment maintenance, lifting supervisor) are highly advantageous.

Experience:

• Minimum of 1-3 years of hands‑on experience in industrial mechanical systems, troubleshooting, installation, and maintenance, preferably within the water treatment, process, or heavy industrial sectors.
• Experience specifically with non-contractual, ad-hoc service projects and client-facing roles is a strong advantage.

Working Conditions:

• May involve working in diverse industrial environments, including water treatment plants, construction sites, and manufacturing facilities.
• Requires significant physical ability to climb, lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces (with proper certification), and in various weather conditions.
• May be required to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends or public holidays, or be on-call for urgent mechanical issues.
