Job summary

ASE SEMICONDUCTOR (PENANG) SDN. BHD. is seeking a frontline equipment support technician to ensure timely response to minor failures and to backfill across SMT processes.

The role covers maintenance, cleanup, and process stability to sustain manufacturing throughput and product quality in a high-mix environment. You will perform run-time chemical replacements, schedule reflow oven cleaning, and generate end-of-shift reports to communicate issues and actions.

Qualifications

• The role provides first-line technical support for equipment-related issues, ensuring timely response to minor equipment failures, routine maintenance activities, and production support requirements. Maintaining adequate manpower coverage is essential to minimize equipment downtime, sustain manufacturing throughput, and ensure uninterrupted production operations.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-shift technical support for equipment minor failures and conversion activities across SMT processes, including Stencil Printing, Die Attach, Chip Mounting, Reflow, Flux Cleaning, Dispensing, and SMT AOI equipment.
• Perform run-time chemical replacement for flux cleaning systems per schedule.
• Clean and maintain wetted components in dispensing equipment to ensure stability and quality.
• Schedule reflow oven cleaning to prevent flux residue and contamination.
• Prepare end-of-shift reports communicating issues, actions taken, and follow-ups.
• Lead and participate in 5S, continuous improvement, and Kaizen on equipment performance and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

1. Provide in-shift technical support for equipment minor failures and product conversion activities across SMT processes, including Stencil Printing, Die Attach, Chip Mounting, Reflow, Flux Cleaning, Dispensing, and SMT AOI equipment.
2. Support production operations by performing run-time chemical replacement activities for flux cleaning systems in accordance with scheduled operating-hour requirements.
3. Execute periodic cleaning and maintenance of wetted components in dispensing equipment to ensure process stability and product quality.
4. Perform scheduled reflow oven cleaning activities to prevent flux residue accumulation and contamination risks to customer products.
5. Prepare detailed end-of-shift reports to ensure effective communication of equipment issues, corrective actions taken, and pending follow-up activities.
6. Lead and participate in 5S, continuous improvement, and Kaizen initiatives related to equipment performance, reliability, and workplace organization.

Impact if Position Is Not Replaced

1. Increased Equipment Downtime: Reduced engineering technician coverage will result in slower response times to equipment failures, delayed troubleshooting activities, and increased unplanned downtime across multiple critical SMT processes.
2. Production and Capacity Risk: Insufficient shift support may affect equipment availability and manufacturing throughput, potentially impacting production schedules and delivery commitments.
3. Quality and Yield Risk: Delayed resolution of equipment-related issues increases the risk of process instability, product defects, yield loss, and potential customer impact.
4. Increased Workload on Existing Team Members: The remaining technicians will be required to absorb additional responsibilities, increasing workload and reducing the team's ability to effectively support preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities.
