As part of its continued expansion in Malaysia, our client is seeking a Technical Support Engineer to provide technical support, commissioning, customer training, and after-sales services for power system and substation automation projects.
This role is ideal for an electrical engineering professional who enjoys hands‑on technical work, customer interaction, site commissioning, and exposure to international projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide after‑sales technical support, troubleshooting, and on‑site services for customers.
- Support marketing and sales activities from a technical perspective, including:
- Technical seminars and presentations
- Product demonstrations and testing
- Tender preparation and technical clarification
- Act as the key technical interface between customers and internal engineering teams during project implementation and maintenance.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), technical discussions, customer requirement clarification, and technical issue resolution.
- Prepare system configurations and carry out site installation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Configure, test, and commission substation automation and secondary systems.
- Provide customer training and set up demonstration systems to simulate real operating conditions and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Prepare technical documentation, service reports, project records, and relevant data analysis.
- Provide technical support for both domestic and international projects.
- Work closely with the Country Manager and regional technical teams to achieve project, service, and performance objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Power Automation, Power Electronics, or a related discipline.
- Around 2 years of experience in site service, commissioning, or technical support for electrical power products or systems is preferred.
- Fresh graduates with a strong technical foundation and relevant internship/project exposure may also be considered.
- Good understanding of electrical power systems, protection, control, and automation technologies.
- Ability to communicate in English and Chinese, including technical reading and written communication.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel within Malaysia and internationally.
- Hands‑on knowledge of electrical secondary systems installation, testing, and commissioning.
- Familiarity with Malaysian utility standards and requirements, particularly TNB, SEB, and SESB, would be highly advantageous.
- Understanding of substation installation and commissioning processes, particularly secondary circuits and protection/control systems.
- Ability to configure and commission HMI and SCADA systems used in substations.
- Familiarity with configuration and commissioning of substation IEDs, such as:
- Protection relays
- BCU
- RTU
- Experience using secondary injection and relay testing equipment such as OMICRON, PONOVO, or equivalent tools.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, coordination, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with the following experience will be given strong consideration:
- 3+ years of project execution or project management experience within the power or electrical engineering sector.
- Hands‑on experience with protection relays, IEDs, or automation systems from manufacturers such as SEL, Siemens, Schneider Electric, ABB, or GE Vernova.
- Experience in installation and commissioning of advanced substation or power systems, including:
- Digital substations
- STATCOM
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Water‑cooling systems
- Previous experience supporting overseas engineering or international power projects.
- Experience working directly with utilities, EPC contractors, substations, power plants, or large industrial customers.
