The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in tax compliance, stakeholder management, and transfer pricing. With over 10 years of experience, including solid consulting exposure, you’ll manage tax filings, audits, and liaise with external stakeholders.
The Tax Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing all tax matters relating to Malaysian subsidiaries, ensuring full compliance with Malaysian tax laws and regulations, while proactively driving tax optimisation initiatives (including tax incentives applicable to the Group) to minimise tax leakage and bring the effective tax rate (ETR) as close as practicable to the prevailing statutory tax rate. Manage all direct and indirect tax matters for Malaysian entities, including:

Provide tax support for business initiatives and projects in Malaysia, including ad-hoc tax assessments and risk evaluations.
Own and drive tax optimisation initiatives for Malaysian entities, with a clear focus on reducing avoidable tax leakage and bringing the effective tax rate (ETR) as close as practicable to the prevailing statutory tax rate, without compromising tax compliance or governance.
Perform periodic ETR analysis and reconciliation to identify key drivers of ETR variance, including non-deductible expenses, tax incentives, capital allowances, deferred tax movements, withholding tax leakage and other permanent or timing differences.
Identify, evaluate and implement legitimate tax planning opportunities, incentives, exemptions and structuring options that improve the Group’s overall tax efficiency and cash tax position.
Work closely with Finance and Business Units to embed tax considerations into contracts, investments, project structures and commercial decisions at an early stage.
Track and report tax optimisation initiatives, quantified tax savings, ETR impact and implementation status to Finance leadership.
Advise internal stakeholders (Finance, Legal, Business Units) on:
Tax implications of contracts, pricing, and business structures
Changes in Malaysian tax laws, regulations, and compliance processes
Communicate and implement tax regulatory updates affecting Malaysian operations.
Act as the key contact for external stakeholders including tax authorities, auditors, and tax advisors.
Coordinate and liaise with overseas finance teams on:
Cross-border transactions involving Malaysian entities
Information requests from group or auditors
Provide Malaysia tax input to support overseas teams where required (without owning foreign tax compliance).
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or related field
Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, CTA, or equivalent preferred
Minimum 10 years of relevant Malaysia-focused tax experience, including at least 5 years of solid tax consulting/advisory experience with an established tax advisory firm (preferably Big 4 or equivalent), complemented by meaningful in-house commercial tax experience within a sizeable and complex corporate group.
